Recently there have been rumours that a teaser trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be hitting Hall H at the San Diego Comic Con this July. While timing could allow for the studio to reveal a short (and sweet) teaser trailer to an excited audience, after reaching out to Universal Pictures for comment it would appear that this is nothing more than a rumour.
While it is always fun to speculate and with actor Daniella Pineda having recently tweeted that she believes there will be a teaser trailer “soon”, it’s important to remember to always throw in a pinch of salt with the rumours you hear. The studio told us:
“As a studio we aren’t planning any presence for the film at SDCC.”
So there you have it. Unfortunately there will not be a Jurassic presence this year at Comic Con, and it may be some time before we see any footage from the upcoming sequel.
There is just under a year to go until the release and while modern blockbusters all have a copious amount of teaser trailers for teaser trailers, teaser trailers for trailers, and trailers upon trailers, it’s refreshing that the studio are taking a relaxed stance so far with the sequel.
While the marketing plans have not been revealed and we have a while to go until we can expect a trailer, I do hope they retain a number of the key plot points this time around. It’s all about that cinema experience.
Fallen Kingdom hits cinemas in the UK on 8th June and the USA on 22nd June 2018.
For the past week or so, the Jurassic World 2 production has been setting up and filming on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. With many locations on the island being utilized, including the Kualoa Ranch, one of the main locations this week has been the He’eia Kea Harbor, a small boat harbor on the East side of the island.
Hawaii News Now reports that filming began on Wednesday 21st June at the harbor and that dinosaurs, smoke machines and large black tarps are currently occupy over half of the harbor. The report also states that boat owners were paid handsomely to move their boats and five commercial businesses were paid to temporarily halt their operations during filming.
We did report on the harbor filming a few days ago, but now we have more photos and a longer video from Hawaii News Now! As always we’ll provide a friendly spoiler warning – do not scroll down if you want to avoid any spoilers for the movie.
The context of what is being filmed at the harbour is unclear but from the photos we can see that smoke has played a large part, along with the military vehicles that we have seen at various other locations too.
While filming continues at the harbour, a portion of the Kamehameha highway will also remain closed until next week. What do you think they may be filming here? The area of He’eia Kea is not alien to filming – 50 First Dates filmed at the Harbor, and the nose piece of Flight 815 from Lost was stored and filmed on the other side of the highway.

Fallen Kingdom will continue to film on the island of Oahu for the next few weeks, with Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith and Ted Levine known to be on island currently.
In related news – rumours have been floating around that a Fallen Kingdom teaser trailer will show in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con this July. Recently, Universal Pictures informed us that there are no current plans for a teaser trailer, and while Comic Con is always a perfect event to market a movie, this franchise has never truly explored this. In 2011 Steven Spielberg announced to an excited audience that they have a story for Jurassic Park 4 and will hopefully see the light of day in 2 or 3 years. And in 2014 during the run-up to Jurassic World, fans were able to text Universal for a location to pick up an exclusive SDCC poster.
However, having reached out to Universal directly they informed us that: “as a studio we aren’t planning any presence for the film at SDCC”. It’s not time to get excited, just yet.
With Jeff Goldblum having recently been announced as joining the sequel, the 2018 follow-up to 2015’s Jurassic World is shaping up to be an action-packed sequel, feeling more in line with the first two movies and opting for similar art style to The Lost World. While the poster reveals very little and is utilising the current Jurassic World colours, the logo is now seen to be cracked and corroded (much like The Lost World) and the poster shows some glowing amber ashes flying past – something we saw very recently on some of the key art used at the Las Vegas Expo.
With only one year to go until the US release date, we will begin to hear more on the sequel in the coming months. While I don’t expect we’ll see a teaser trailer soon, a plot synopsis would be very welcomed.

In a world where we consider social media posts to be official confirmations, British events company Secret Cinema have just announced that their next project will be… Jurassic Park!

Secret Cinema specialise in “Live Cinema” experiences, often creating large sets based on the movie, and combining the screenings with interactive performances. One of their first major events was for Back to the Future where they created a life-size Hill Valley set.
The company have gone on to host a number of large movies, The Empire Strikes Back, Moulin Rouge! and 28 Days Later.
Now, via Instagram, Secret Cinema have seemingly confirmed that their next project will be Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park!
There is of course no further information on this and no written confirmation, but with the 25th Anniversary fast approaching and the current buzz surrounding the upcoming Jurassic World sequel, it’s safe to say Secret Cinema will take on the 1993 classic that we all know and love.
So what do you expect to see? Will we sit in a spinning auditorium and be greeted by multiple John Hammonds? Or will they up the ante and seat us on the main road where we can witness the T-rex breaking through the fence?

The sequel to Jurassic World is now more than half way through filming in various locations across the UK and while we have been careful with what set photos we share, Air First Ltd have shared some stills that show the cast and crew filming at an airfield.

Luckily the movies always include some form of air travel, be it aeroplanes or helicopters, so the below confirms nothing new.
While we don’t know the context of the scene being filmed, it would appear as though a group of characters are being filmed boarding one of the planes. Notice the light and large flag that’s being used to reduce the sun hitting the walkway leading up to the plane.
The Facebook post itself states that the people seen sitting around the table are actually stunt doubles and if that is the case then they are the doubles for Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith and the man standing could be Chris Pratt’s double.

Everybody’s favourite sequel to Jurassic Park has turned twenty! 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park was released in theaters exactly twenty years ago today, four years after Jurassic Park. The sequel was directed by Steven Spielberg and penned by David Koepp, and was loosely based on Michael Crichton’s novel of the same name.
Over the years the sequel has gained some critical reviews, mainly focusing on how different it is to the book and due to the final scene, which brought the Tyrannosaurus Rex to the mainland. However, there is also a lot of love for it. For me it’s as enjoyable and thrilling as Jurassic Park; I love how distinctively different the aesthetic is to the first film, how gritty, dirty and dark the cinematography is compared to Dean Cundey’s, but how the film managed to retain the same themes and values from the first.
In a way, it’s a perfect sequel – it holds the beliefs of the original and maintains a familiar setting, but builds a darker and scarier tone.
The animatronics, the visual effects, the characters, the vehicles, the Goldblum, the lighting… everything about this movie is Jurassic Park.
What will you be doing to celebrate The Lost World’s 20th anniversary? If you’re in the UK and near to London, the Prince Charles Cinema is showing the first two films back to back in a 35mm print – this is worth checking out! There is also a screening of the first three films at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary, animation director Randal M. Dutra recently spoke with vfxblog about his work on the film, and reflected on the early days of visual effects within the film industry.
Randal worked for Tippett Studio on Jurassic Park and was heavily involved in the stop-motion technology that Phil Tippett pioneered. After the success of Jurassic Park he moved to ILM as an Animation Director, and discusses his work on the film in detail. Worth the read! Thanks to Ian for sending this our way.

With the recent announcement that Jeff Goldblum will be reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the upcoming sequel to Jurassic World, what better way to celebrate than to watch Jurassic Park and The Lost World back to back?
The Prince Charles Cinema in London agrees and will be hosting a Double Feature screening of both movies, back to back, in 35mm!
The screening takes place on Saturday 17th June and opens at 8:45pm, with tickets costing £15 for non-members and £12.50 for members. You can purchase your tickets here!
The Prince Charles Cinema is known for screening original 35mm (or 70mm!) prints of movies and bringing back classics and cult films. They host marathons of popular franchises and also host movie premieres. The first time I went to the Prince Charles was for the premiere of a movie I had worked on. Another experience (and I really mean experience) was when they screened The Room and had Tommy Wiseau there, signing Blu-Rays. What a guy.
It’s a great cinema and is located right next to Leicester Square, so grab some food in Chinatown then head down to the Prince Charles! I’ll be there, will you?
Back in March, a few weeks after the sequel to Jurassic World began filming, Colin Trevorrow shared the first set picture from the movie, featuring a little girl staring up at a large, intimidating skull inside a large mansion.
Today producer Frank Marshall tweeted another photo from this same set, to celebrate the production nearly reaching the halfway point.
In the photo we can see the producer’s chairs – names printed in the classic Jurassic font – as well as director J.A. Bayona’s chair to the right. What’s most interesting about the image though, is what we’re able to see in the background reflections. Most obvious is the large dinosaur seen in the middle…
While it’s unclear what species this is, it could be a Metriacanthosaurus, a species not before seen in the Jurassic Park franchise, although the species was seen listed in the embryo storage containers in Jurassic Park, as well as on the map in Jurassic World. It is unclear whether or not this is a museum statue diorama (such as those found in real-world dinosaur theme parks) or a full-size animatronic. While the latter is doubtful, from what we can see of the dinosaur, it looks to be of a high quality.
What you may have missed is the reflection of the T. rex, seen under the tail of the Metriacanthosaurus.
As we know the iconic T. rex will be returning, and this reflection confirms that at least the species will be seen again. While it’s unclear if this is “Rexy”, this too could be showing an animatronic from the set.
You can also make out some of the original skeletons of dinosaurs that were seen in the photo that Colin shared.

Wow. That’s pretty much the ideal word to describe this weekend. What a turnout. What a good group of fans. What an event.
After working in collaboration with Universal Pictures on this event for a good few months now, it was exciting to finally see it all come together on April 2. The weekend hadn’t provided the best weather in Philadelphia, but the skies cleared that morning giving us little wind and bright sunshine all day.
Arriving around 11am, for many of us this is our first visit to The Franklin Institute and to Jurassic World: The Exhibition which, to any Jurassic Park fan, is exciting enough in itself! The Franklin is tremendous and the Jurassic World banners flowing in the wind highlight their biggest attraction to date.
After the Outpost team had sorted our equipment, sign-in table and logistics with the museum representative (and manager of Jurassic World: The Exhibition!) Michelle – who was amazing to work with, and so enthusiastic about the Exhibition and about our event – we stationed ourselves outside the main entrance on the steps leading into the museum. This is where fans began to arrive and we took our group photo – #SaveOurSaurs!
First up: Jurassic World in 3D. Although it turns out Universal had some technical issues with the 3D copy, and instead announced that we would be watching Jurassic Park in 3D. Maybe they did not expect the response, but the crowd roared with excitement and we sat to watch our favourite film.
Next up: Dr. Jack Horner graced us with his presence and answered many questions from fans, submitted both through the Jurassic World social pages and directly from us. Jack was really on form, so passionate about the movies and the dinosaurs that feature in them.
He explained the current status of his Chickenosaurus which is roughly three years away from completion, with only the tail left to genetically modify! He wants to see a Carnotaur in a sequel, and is excited for Jurassic World 2 which he promised has a fantastic script. Check out the audio from the Q&A below!
Those attending got the opportunity to meet Dr. Jack Horner in person, and while we did pry for sequel news, unfortunately his lips are sealed! Interestingly enough, when Ryan asked about the skeleton of the Triceratops looking dinosaur in the first official set picture from the sequel, he said it was a “Fake-a-saurus”…
The Velociraptor Meet & Greet was next, where we got to interact and meet Echo, the human in a Raptor suit. It was impressive to see up close and we learned that Echo was on her way to Chicago!
The discounted tickets for the day included entry between 5pm and 7pm to the Exhibition itself so we headed on through – what an experience! The museum, Universal and the Creative Technology company have really designed something special here, no wonder it is their busiest attraction! We learned that some props from the movie made it into the Exhibition, so seeing those up close is quite something! Check out this video from the Exhibition by Kerr Robinson!
After the event, the team from the Outpost (and a few others) headed to film a behind the scenes interview with Steve – Head of Creatures at Jurassic World: The Exhibition. He demonstrated how the T. rex operates and gave us great insight into how the Exhibition came together, and how it all works! He even let Chris operate the Rex! Check out the interview below, and huge thanks to Steve for taking the time to speak with us.
We had collaborated on this event with Universal and organised the schedule, but they truly surprised us in the screening by announcing canapés and cocktails after we have made our way through the Exhibition, to celebrate! This provided time to really meet and talk with those who had attended, and it truly was great to meet so many passionate fans!
The event went smoothly and everybody attending appeared to have a great time! With the little notice we had to actually advertise the event, Chris and I expected maybe 30 fans to attend. When we arrived, 83 tickets had been purchased, and the final figure made it over 100! How amazing is that?! We can’t thank you all enough for making your way to Philadelphia for this – the first official fan community event! It was fun to plan and equally attend, and meeting so many fans that we’ve known online for years made it all the better!
As for the weekend, it was the first time any of the Outpost team had met, and we all agreed it went too smoothly. Bros for life – I think the combination of Jurassic Park (well, The Lost World) quotes, pizza and a touch of alcohol solidified our friendship past online friends.
We were inundated with photos, messages and posts from the big day and we’re still working our way through it all now! So many of you shared your event photos and it really is so amazing to read your messages! We’re so happy you enjoyed it. Shoutout to the Jurassic Park Motor Pool who made it down with a Jeep, and a huge shoutout to Jaroslav Kosmina who created a unique gift for those who attended (email us if you missed out – these were distributed at the cocktails part)!
Ethan Pettus also attended and handed out zines for his upcoming novel, Primitive War! Dr. Jack Horner was in awe at the concept art showing feathered dinosaurs, and I know he kept both a copy of the zine and Jaroslav’s sketch – both impressive!

The event went down without a hitch and we were amazed by the turnout. Jurassic fans truly flock in herds, and I’ll keep saying it – it was amazing to meet so many of you. What a fandom this is! We want to thank everyone who made it down, and everybody at The Franklin Institute who were so helpful and accommodating throughout the day.
And of course, this is the first time Universal Pictures have worked with a fandom, not just for Jurassic Park but for any franchise, and I can honestly say that it was so rewarding. Darice, J.P., Molly, Shayne and everybody else who worked with us, thank you.
