Lego Unveils ‘Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar’ Mini-Series and New Tie-In Sets!

Kicking off New York Toy Fair 2019 with a roar, Lego and Universal Brand Development have announced a followup to last years ‘The Secret Exhibit’ titled ‘Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar’! This new mini series will take place in 2012, three years before the events of Jurassic World, and have a 13 episode long run filled with dinosaurs, drama, but most of all, zany comedy only Lego can deliver.

Set in 2012, three years before the events of the Jurassic World movie, LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar picks up where the story left off from LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit. Newly hired animal behaviorist Owen Grady and Assistant Manager of Park Operations Claire Dearing team up on Isla Nublar to deal with everything the Jurassic World park throws their way. And “everything” includes runaway dinosaurs, ongoing construction to expand the park, tourists everywhere, unpredictable tropical weather, and an impulsive boss! Plus, a mysterious saboteur with surprising ties to the park’s past is on a quest to find a legendary treasure and destroy Jurassic World forever! What could possibly go wrong? Everything.

It’s clear that the mysterious saboteur will be none other than Dennis Nedry’s own nephew, Danny Nedermeyer, who was up to no good in the control room during ‘The Secret Exhibit’. That plot thread was left wide open, and while this series is no doubt not canon, I’m looking forward to seeing it all play out. The series debuts later this year, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.

Moving on from the mini-series, and to what fans have really been hopeful for, Lego have also revealed four new sets which tie into the ‘Legend of Isla Nublar’. One thing is for certain – some of these sets are sure to surprise!

Dilophosaurus on the Loose

Explore LEGO Jurassic World with Owen Grady and build his drone to look after the dinosaurs. Meet Hudson Harper, a kid who knows everything there is to know about dinosaurs. And build the market stall in the shape of a dinosaur head with LEGO bricks. But look out—a young Dilophosaurus has escaped and is creeping up behind Hudson. Fly to the rescue with Owen’s drone, fire the net shooter and capture that dinosaur. Every day is an adventure with this action-packed LEGO playset!
Ages 6+, 168 pieces, $19.99 (USD)

Baryonyx Face-Off: The Treasure Hunt

Rush to stop Danny Nedermeyer and Sinjin Prescott’s dangerous treasure hunt in LEGO Jurassic World! According to legend, there is treasure hidden on Isla Nublar and Danny and Sinjin have a map and old videotape to help them find it. But when a Baryonyx dinosaur thinks they are trying to steal her fish, they have to hide out in an old trailer. Help Owen Grady and Claire Dearing fix up the off-road buggy. Then drive with them and Red the dog to catch the bad guys before they steal the treasure!
Ages 7+, 434 pieces, $59.99 (USD)

Triceratops Rampage

Take a ride on the awesome new LEGO Jurassic World Egg Spinner with Simon Masrani and Allison Miles. But, watch out—there’s been a power failure and the mighty Triceratops has smashed through the fence and escaped! Jump in the buggy with Owen Grady and speed to the rescue. Dangle a carrot in front of the mighty dinosaur to distract it and save the tourist. There’s never a dull day in Jurassic World park!
Ages 7+, 447 pieces, $59.99 (USD)

T. rex vs Dino-Mech Battle

Danger! Danny Nedermeyer is roaming Jurassic World park in his huge Dino-Mech on a mission to steal the treasure hidden in the Isla Nublar volcano. But first he has to face the mighty T. rex. Jump in the boat with Owen Grady, Claire Dearing, Vic Hoskins—plus baby Velociraptors Blue, Delta, Echo and Charlie—and speed to the battle scene. Fire the boat’s stud shooters at the Dino-Mech. Put the T. rex to sleep with the tranquilizer gun. You must stop Danny before he finds a way to smash into the volcanic rock and steal the treasure!
Ages 8+, 716 pieces, $89.99 (USD)

Yes, that is a large Tyrannosaurus Rex mech colored like the Jurassic Park Ford Explorer vehicles. Does it make sense as something in the Jurassic franchise? Not one bit. Will it be amusing to watch in the mini-series, and later own as your own personal set? You bet. Another curiosity is the Baryonyx sporting four fingers and a Velociraptor-style sickle claw. Whether that indicates it’s another hybrid, an error, or a cost cutting measure to simply use the Indoraptor’s body and limbs is unknown – but either way, it creates one weird but beautifully painted looking dino.

I absolutely love the sets based around the open park – particularly the Triceratops Rampage, which is something I would like to see more of (over vehicles). Rumor has it there is one more set coming this year, a massive collector oriented direct to consumer set based upon either the Jurassic Park visitors center, or Jurassic World Innovation Center. Many fans have been eager more accurate representations of the parks, classic vehicles, and set pieces – while these new sets may not scratch that itch, there is hope 2019 will still deliver for them as well.

The new Lego sets are expected to hit store shelves Fall of this year.

Stay tuned, as New York Toy Fair news continues to come in over the weekend, and as always, sound off in the comments below!

Chris Pratt Has Talked ‘Jurassic World 3’ with Laura Dern and Hints at Dr. Ellie Sattler’s Return!

‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ roared into theaters less than a year ago, but fans are hungry for news pertaining to the future. Thankfully Chris Pratt, who plays the raptor wrangler Owen Grady, has us covered. Excitedly speaking to Josh Horowitz of MTV News about what’s next for the Jurassic Park franchise now that dinosaurs are off the islands, Horowitz pressed him about the potential of a Jurassic Park character reunion.

Check it out below (starting around 12:15):

They also talk about how Dr. Ian Malcolm will have a more interesting role, outside of a courtroom and perhaps interacting with dinosaurs once again. Chris Pratt doesn’t hold back, and while this remains unconfirmed officially, it seems all but certain the original Jurassic Park characters are coming back – especially Laura Dern as Ellie Sattler as Chris Pratt directly acknowledges talking Jurassic World 3 with her recently!

This all comes after Bryce Dallas Howard strongly hinted Dr. Sattler would make a return, essentially making this all appear to be a poorly kept secret everyone wants to spill the beans on. The original Jurassic Park love is very real! Chris Pratt also confirms he knows the entire Jurassic World 3 story – and while he was tight-lipped, he is incredibly excited and “blown away” by the finale soon to come as they “jump forward” after Fallen Kingdom.

The original Jurassic Park cast connections doesn’t stop there, this morning Sam Neill, Dr. Alan Grant himself, tweeted a “reunion” photo of himself with Laura Dern. The tweet has since been retweeted by the Offical Jurassic World Twitter account. Perhaps just some dot connecting on our part, but those ripple rings in the water seem to be getting much bigger!

How do you think the original Jurassic Park characters can come back, and what do you want to see in Jurassic World 3? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and on our forums.

Huge thanks to Ana on Twitter for sharing this news!
