Primitive War – Read a Chapter From This New Novel by Jurassic Fan Ethan Pettus!

I like to make a habit of posting about fan made projects and highlighting the creative talent that stems from Jurassic fans. It’s funny how, over the years, I’ve befriended many like-minded people who – aside from their love for Jurassic Park – are filmmakers, writers, creatives in their own right.

With that said, I wanted to write about Primitive War – a new novel by Ethan Pettus. Clearly inspired by Jurassic and his love for dinosaurs, Primitive War is the story of a search and rescue team known as Vulture Squad, who are sent into an isolated jungle valley to uncover the fate of a missing platoon. As they hunt through the primordial depths of the valley, they discover horrors that not only threaten to unravel their minds, but to end their lives as well.

The cover art alone is beautiful, and while the old saying states that you should never judge a book by its cover, I certainly did when I saw this one. How very Trespasser!

The artwork and concept art from the novel that Ethan shared with me show what an action packed and terrifying adventure it will be. And for those feathered dinosaur fans, this is right up your alley!

The art is beautiful and the story sounds great – but how about the writing? Check out an exclusive chapter below! Trust me, it’s pretty damn thrilling:

Primitive War will be released within the next couple of months and will be available to purchase on Amazon. Be sure to check out the Facebook page here so you can follow updates on the novel, and let Ethan know what you thought of the above chapter by commenting below!

UPDATE: Ethan has shared with us a new piece of concept art and another chapter from the novel for you to read!

Check out the chapter below!

UPDATE: Primitive War is now available on paperback and Kindle through Amazon!

A search and rescue team known as Vulture Squad is sent to an isolated jungle valley to uncover the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon. As they hunt through the primordial depths of the valley, they discover ancient horrors that not only threaten to unravel their minds, but to end their lives as well. When the casualties mount, the men of Vulture Squad must abandon their human nature and give in to their savage instincts in order to survive…the Primitive War.

LA Times Lists Jurassic World 2 as Currently Shooting in Pacoima, LA – Legacy Effects Likely Involved!

The LA Times have reported that Jurassic World 2 (under the working title of Ancient Futures) is filming in Los Angeles this week, starting Monday 13th and wrapping on Sunday 19th.

We know that the production offices are in London and that the crew and a number of key actors are currently shooting at Pinewood Studios, so this week’s supposed filming in Pacoima, LA is certainly surprising.

What does this mean, you ask. We’re not quite sure ourselves… actors Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith are currently filming in London, with B.D. Wong having confirmed his position there too. The rest of the cast are currently unaccounted for, so it’s possible that they are in LA shooting additional scenes or perhaps second unit material, but this theory doesn’t have much grounding as J.A. Bayona wouldn’t be there to direct them.

It’s possible that this is second unit material and that the length of time also includes set construction/preparations. It’s also possible that this is filming for a teaser trailer or something marketing related, but that is purely a theory and we have no other information at this point.

What do you make of this news? What do you think they could be filming, if anything? Be sure to let us know in the comments section below, and follow our Instagram for daily Jurassic posts!

UPDATE: Legacy Effects, who worked on the animatronic Apatosaur for Jurassic World, are located minutes from Pacoima in Los Angeles, which lends credibility to this rumour and hints that Legacy Effects may be involved in the sequel after all.

We reported a while back that Jurassic World 2 had veered from Legacy Effects and instead hired Neal Scanlan’s team in the UK to work on the animatronic dinosaurs, but now it would appear that both Neal Scanlan’s team and Legacy are working on the sequel!

In case you missed it, we’re currently working with Universal Pictures on the first official community event, taking place this April 2nd at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA. There will be an IMAX screening of Jurassic World, a Q&A with Dr. Jack Horner, a Velociraptor meet and greet and plenty more, including discounted entry to Jurassic World: The Exhibition!

Read more about the event here, and let us know if you’re coming by RSVPing to our Facebook event. We hope you can make it!

New Photos Showcase Set Construction for Jurassic World 2!

Filming for Jurassic World 2 is now in full swing, with actress Bryce Dallas Howard kicking off the #JurassicHype by posting an image a day from the set. Along with her not-so-revealing but equally cool photos, a number of fans who live near the current filming locations decided to take a walk and see what they could see.

Below are a series of photos showing the construction team in development on sets for the film, as well as some potential props and vehicles. While the sets are indistinguishable, if you want to avoid any spoilers then look away now.

The first photos are from Jay on Twitter, who took these photos in the Hawley Common area. There were signs on the surrounding fence that confirmed it was an ‘Ancient Futures’ closed set.

The second is from Raptor Chaser on Twitter, who took this photo of the set currently being constructed in Pyestock!

Another image from Darryl also shows the Pyestock set:

Filming began at the Langley Business Centre last week, and a few fans waited around to see what they could spot. Raptor Chaser took a photo that shows a Mercedes Unimog U5000, possibly being used for the film. A portacabin with large jungle vines dangled on it was also seen:

Also spotted at this location were some mysterious pods that possibly hold the Jurassic World logo:

Below are some more photos from the Hawley Common area, taken by Raptor Chaser:

These photos certainly are interesting! Have you seen any Ancient Futures signs near you? If so, let us know, and be sure to follow our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for round the clock Jurassic news!

DAY 1 – Bryce Dallas Howard Kicks off Filming with the First Set Photo

Yesterday, in a dreary business centre complex in Slough, England, the production team for Jurassic World 2 began to setup for filming. While some fans visited the area to see what they could spot, it became clear that this was not day 1 of principle photography as originally thought, but instead a day of preparation with filming to commence the following day.

Actress Bryce Dallas Howard just confirmed the fact in a new tweet, featuring the first official photo from the set of Jurassic World 2. She writes: “Day 1.”

We can see in the photo that they are currently filming inside the Langley Business Centre, which as predicted, has had a set built inside of it. Notice the HMI light poking out just above the chair. What is behind this wall? That we don’t know, and hopefully won’t until June 2018.

In 2014 producer Frank Marshall tweeted to announce the first day of filming on Jurassic World, with set photos following shortly after. Hopefully we will see some official photos of the team on set today.

The sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World has now officially begun filming and will continue throughout the coming few months, filming at Pinewood Studios, an Army Training Ground in Surrey, Brecon Beacons in Wales and of course, Hawaii.

Best of luck to the cast and crew of Ancient Futures!

We’ll keep you updated on all the filming news as soon as we hear it, so be sure to stay glued to our Instagram, Twitter and Facebook channels for the latest!

Donald Gennaro Accepts Lifetime Achievement Award on Jimmy Kimmel

Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is hosting The Oscars on February 26th, and as part of the run up to that he took a moment on his latest show to honor what could be the greatest performance in cinema history – when the blood-sucking lawyer gets eaten off the toilet in Jurassic Park.

Martin Ferrero, who played Donald Gennaro in Jurassic Park, took to the stage to accept the custom award and gave an emotional speech which you can check out below:

While this of course is only a bit of fun, it’s nice to still see Jurassic Park in the spotlight. I mean, just look at that award:

A couple of years ago our friends at Jurassic Cast spoke with Martin Ferraro about Jurassic Park so be sure to give that a listen!

With Jurassic World 2 set to start filming in London very soon, make sure you’re following our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for round the clock news and information! We’ll be following the production just like last time, and if you catch wind of anything then be sure to send us a message!

Jurassic World Sequel Looking to Film in Harrow, London?

With cameras set to start rolling in less than a month, it’s no surprise that we’re beginning to hear of more locations getting the confirmation that they’ll feature in the sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World. A few days ago a Spanish website confirmed that Brecon Beacons in Wales was a location, and we already know that the islands of Hawaii will be utilised for filming, along with Pinewood Studios in London.

But now we’re hearing that another location in London – outside of Pinewood Studios – is apparently being eyed by location managers for the sequel. Dijeirusan reported on Facebook that the area of Pinner, Harrow in North West London has been scouted by location managers.

“I had Harrow Council Planning Department visit my house, to approve my new extension. They saw my Jurassic Park collection, and said the filmmakers were scouting Pinner (an area in Harrow) for filming”

He went on to say that they didn’t have any other information to offer other than that. The area of Pinner is described as a wealthy area of the London Borough of Harrow in northwest London.

Without any further information we have to take news like this with a pinch of salt – and it’s unclear in exactly what capacity the area of Pinner might be used. Due to its relatively short distance to Pinewood Studios, it’s a logical location for the production, and it may even be that they’re only shooting an interior location here, which could stand in for anywhere in the world. This in no way confirms that the actual city of London will feature in the sequel – but at this point, it could.

Either way, this little rumour is reminiscent of the days before social media, when internet message boards and word of mouth were the main source for film news. Council Workers liking the look of someone’s Jurassic Park collection and handing out some information sounds like it was pulled straight out of 2002! Huge thanks to Dijeirusan for sharing!

Have you heard any rumours about filming? Shoot us a message and we’ll devour it.

‘Baby Raptor in the Nursery’ Scene from Jurassic Park Revealed in Rare Storyboards!

Last week we shared storyboards that show an alternate ending for Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park. Those storyboards were posted by Jurassic Time creator Derrick Davis, who has spent the past few weeks combing through the Early Sequence Storyboard Binder which he won at Phil Tippett’s online auction.

Today Derrick shared a new sequence, one that never made it to the final screenplay but was strikingly similar to the original scene in the novel. The sequence takes place when the park guests are introduced to the baby Velociraptor, which is revealed as so by Chief Geneticist Dr. Henry Wu. In the movie you’ll remember that the guests witness the baby Raptor break out of its shell and are concerned when Dr Wu. reveals the breed.

In these storyboards however, we can see a different scene unfold. It takes place in the Nursery, and an already hatched baby Raptor is perched upon a technician’s shoulder. Check out some highlights below!

Along with the full storyboards which you can make your way through here, Derrick also included the original script pages and a piece of concept art showing the Baby Raptor in action:

As I stated in the previous article, it’s incredibly exciting to see such old material now come into the spotlight for us all to see. If you liked seeing the above, have a read of the alternate ending to the Nedry vs Dilophosaurus scene, as well as the alternate storyboard shots for the Main Road sequence and an entirely different ending to the movie!

Thanks again to Derrick for sharing these! He also filmed the unboxing of his win, which you can see below:

Spanish Magazine Confirms Jurassic World 2 Will Shoot in Brecon Beacons, Wales

With Jurassic World set to begin filming next month at Pinewood Studios in London and later heading to Hawaii to film on location, we often wonder if there are any other filming locations on the list.

In July of last year we heard that Wales was being considered for the sequel and assumed that the Pinewood Studios situated there was being eyed for studio use. However, the following week we heard that the production team had actually expressed interest in the lush countryside of Brecon Beacons.

While it was never fully confirmed that this location was on the agenda, and as time went on we began to hear less about it, we now have received some form of confirmation that Jurassic World 2 will utilize this landscape.

Director J.A. Bayona was recently interviewed with a Spanish magazine about his latest movie, A Monster Calls. While he couldn’t speak in detail about Jurassic World 2 with ‘magazinedigital‘, he did confirm that the upcoming sequel will indeed film in Brecon Beacons, Wales.

It is unclear at this point in time how the location will be used, as it’s possible that these valley landscapes seen above may stand in for a location on the islands, but with filming set to take place in Hawaii this seems unlikely. Will dinosaurs have reached the mainland in some form? Did Masrani have another facility here?

Give a listen to our latest podcast episode where we recap on all of the latest casting news, the Jurassic World: Survivor video game, the filming locations, as well as a new interview with Chronicle Collectibles:

Early Jurassic Park Storyboards Reveal an Alternate Ending for Nedry’s Dilophosaurus Attack

With the Jurassic Park franchise making a comeback thanks to 2015’s Jurassic World, more and more rare and previously unseen behind the scenes material is beginning to show up among fans. Derrick Davis of Jurassic Time recently won an auction that provided him with a rare glimpse at some early storyboards from the production of Jurassic Park.

The storyboards were from Dinosaur Supervisor Phil Tippett’s personal collection, and along with a number of other items, went up for auction on the Prop Store last October. Some lucky fans were able to snag some incredibly rare props and documents from the movie, and Derrick has been kind enough to share his haul online!

The storyboards show a slightly alternate ending to the Nedry vs Dilophosaurus sequence in Jurassic Park, where instead of Nedry making it inside of the Jeep and being surprised by another Dilophosaurus, he is dragged away as he tries to enter it. Check out some of the boards below:

You can view the rest of the sequence here, along with the header sheet and script page which details the alternate ending for Nedry.

Huge thanks to Derrick for sharing these – with a wealth of reveals among the community recently, it’s getting more and more exciting to think what other unknown treasures are waiting for fans to discover. Phil Tippett sold a huge number of his personal items in the auction showcasing his time working on the movie, along with many others.

We recently revealed the complete story arc for the unreleased Jurassic Park cartoon television series which you can check out here! The story follows on immediately from the ending of the first movie – literally in the helicopter as the survivors leave the island – and details Hammond’s plans to ensure the safety of the island and the dinosaurs on it, protecting them from poachers and a certain malicious company.

If you enjoyed seeing the above storyboards then be sure to have a glance at Derrick’s other albums which include alternate storyboard shots from the Main Road sequence and a unique look at an alternate ending to the movie, which never made it to the final shooting script. Also, check out his unboxing video of his auction win below:

Thanks again to Derrick for sharing these! Take to the comments section below to let us know which ending you prefer!

Did World Famous DJ Dimitri Vegas Just Land a Role in Jurassic World 2?

The Jurassic Park franchise has never been known for cameos and bit parts for celebrities, but that may be changing with the latest casting rumour. We Got This Covered is reporting that world famous DJ Dimitri Vegas has landed a role in the sequel.

Yesterday, the DJ tweeted a photo of himself with producer Frank Marshall with the caption: “Meeting with one of my heroes today @LeDoctor #JurassicWorld”

Frank Marshall later retweeted the photo with his own caption: “DJ Master Frank meets with one of his heroes. Who knows where this will lead?”

While the tweets don’t mention casting, the website’s source revealed that Vegas and Marshall did indeed meet to discuss a role in the sequel. With this information in mind, it’s interesting to note #JurassicWorld and “Who knows where this will lead?” in their tweets.

The photo itself also appears to be taken in the Kennedy/Marshall offices; the photographs behind the pair can be found on the Kennedy/Marshall website.

According to the article, Dimitri Vegas (real name Dimitri Thivaios), has recently signed with CAA and is hoping to break into the industry as an actor. Their source claims that he wouldn’t have a large role in the sequel, and without any acting experience under his belt that’s probably a safe option. However, judging by the positive messages both he and Frank Marshall tweeted, it’s likely the meeting went well.

Could Dimitri Vegas be joining Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, Toby Jones, and Rafe Spall as newcomers to the Jurassic franchise? While we have no official confirmation, with everything considered above it certainly seems likely.

Oh, and Dimitri also picked up Chronicle Collectibles The Lost World: Jurassic Park T-Rex bust, and there’s a Jurassic Park sequence in one of his music videos (skip to 00:55):
