Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Book Confirms First Film Appearance of Fan Favorite Dinosaur!

Spoiler Warning! While this piece of merchandise and description was released directly by the manufacturer, there is a possibility it was not yet meant to be public – particularly before the first trailer. If you would rather discover at least one of the new dinosaur species directly from the marketing, it’s best to turn back now.

Still with us?

While the eagerly anticipated first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has yet to release, small tidbits of news continue to surface from various sources. The eminent threat of a volcanic eruption has been confirmed from numerous pieces of artwork featured on upcoming products, as well as the return of fan favorites such as Velociraptor Blue and the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The latest batch of information comes from the upcoming ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ augmented reality book by Carlton Kids, and it’s quite exciting.

While the cover art reveals nothing new, it does once again hammer home the fiery theme of a volcanic eruption which has been present in all forms of Fallen Kingdom marketing and merchandise. However, the description of the book is a different story – while it’s fairly vague, it outright confirms that a fan favorite dinosaur will be making its on screen debut in Fallen Kingdom: Baryonyx.

Carlton’s official Augmented Reality book is jam-packed with exclusive movie imagery and background facts, and lets you experience original Jurassic World dinosaurs through mind-blowing next-generation, fully interactive Digital Magic. Learn how to bond with and train alpha Velociraptor “Blue”, then use her as your protector and guide as you encounter other dinosaurs through the app. From brand-new movie dinosaur characters including awesome Baryonyx and a terrifying new hybrid breed, to old favourites like T. Rex and Stegosaurus, this Jurassic World AR book will wow readers all over again.

Baryonyx is a bipedal carnivousous dinosaur, that could reach lengths of over 30 feet long, and stood nearly 10 feet tall. The fossil record suggest this predatory dinosaur lived primarily off of a diet of fish, swiping them from the water with long clawed limbs or its crocodile like jaw. However, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be regarded as a threat – especially as InGen creations tend to be more dangerous than their real world namesakes.

Baryonyx art created for JurassicWorld.com in 2015 by Julius Csotonyi

Barynoyx has an interesting history with the Jurassic Park franchise, and despite never being seen in any of the films, was allegedly on Isla Nublar during the events of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. According to the first films park map, it had a riverside paddock on the far east of the island. Likewise, it appears on the Jurassic World park map, and is said to be one of the dinosaurs you can see during the ‘Cretaceous Cruise’.

Further, Baryonyx was almost the main antagonist of Jurassic Park 3, but was later replaced by its larger cousin species the Spinosaurus. In fact, an early version of the Jurassic Park 3 logo featured the Baryonyx over its sailed back relative, which was featured on the final logos. As an homage to this change, Billy Brennan mistakenly identifies the Spinosaurus as a Baryonyx, and when corrected by Alan Grant, comments the Spinosaurus was never present on InGen’s list.

While the Baryonyx has never been depicted in the films, artwork was created for it by paleoartist Julius Csotonyi for the official Jurassic World website – however, it should be noted, this was not commissioned by the fillmaking team, but rather a late addition by the web marketing team. As such, its visual depiction does not reflect its upcoming Fallen Kingdom design, as there was no film material reference. This canonical visual indifference can be seen with the artwork for species that exist in the films, but had no ILM renders, such as Pachycephalosaurus, and Parasaurolophus – in their cases, the Csotonyi artwork looks nothing like their film counterparts.

The Baryonyx isn’t the only exciting detail the augmented reality book revealed – it also confirmed that Fallen Kingdom will feature an all new hybrid dinosaur. While it doesn’t reveal its name, it is safe to assume the creature in question is the ‘Indoraptor‘, which universal trademarked a few months back. No details of this dinosaur beyond its name are known, other than it is likely the dinosaur in the picture above.

The Augmented Reality book is the second in the series from Carlton Kids, following the release of one in 2015 for Jurassic World. It retails for around $9.99, has 32 pages, and releases May 2018. Check out the 2015 book in action to see how the augmented reality features works!

The first trailer for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom debuts December 7th, during Thursday Night Football on NBC and is expected to contain a glimpse at the Baryonyx among many other dinosaur species. Are you excited to finally see this dinosaur in action? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned as more news is sure to erupt online soon!

UPDATE: The First Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer Probably Arriving December 7th!

UPDATE TO PREVIOUS STORY

False alarm on the previous story that the first Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer was to arrive this Thursday, November 30th. Universal Pictures have since clarified that the trailer will NOT be arriving this Thursday. The promo video in the story below (now removed due to a copyright claim from Universal) was released early, by accident. The assets have since been removed from the press server.

The trailer IS close, perhaps a week or two away. Odds are these ads were not meant to be released until next week, which puts the trailer release date on the 7th (which we revealed on our latest Podcast) We will keep you updated as we learn more!

The original story is as follows:

It’s official – the first Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer arrives this Thursday, November 30th. Universal has announced that the very first Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer will debut during Thursday Night Football on NBC (Cowboys vs Redskins).

Universal took to their press servers to upload a series of TV spots teasing the trailer reveal, all stating that the trailer arrives Thursday. As the air/upload date is not embargoed, it is safe to assume it does indeed mean this Thursday – although we had previously heard it was aiming for the Thursday night slot of December 7th, so while the early date is surprising, the debut format is much expected!

This trailer announcement comes shortly after Colin Trevorrow teased the first footage of baby Blue from Fallen Kingdom, taking the internet by storm. Stay tuned – more teases and updates may be coming shortly.

With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful franchises in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Welcome to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return alongside executive producers Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow for Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Pratt and Howard are joined by co-stars James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, while BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles.

Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again partner with Spielberg and Trevorrow in leading the team of filmmakers for this stunning installment. Belén Atienza joins the team as a producer.

Baby Blue is Adorable in First Footage From ‘Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom’!

Hold on to your butts.

As we approach the release of the long-awaited Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer, the marketing has seemingly begun! Writer/producer Colin Trevorrow has teased another “first look” at the film – this time a video of Owen Grady meeting and interacting with what appears to be a “baby Blue”.

Life Finds a Way.

The footage appears to be taking place inside of the old Jurassic Park visitors center, with the mural out of focus in the backdrop – and features a baby Velociraptor who looks just like Blue. As Chris Pratt is wearing is Fallen Kingdom costume, it is not a flashback and cannot be showcasing Blue when she was a baby. This dinosaur is clearly the offspring of Velociraptor Blue, so it leads the question: what other Raptors were on Isla Nublar for her to breed with?

However, should we be wrong, and this is indeed Blue as a baby it begs the question of how flashbacks will be integrated. As Owen is wearing a arm harness similar to a falconers, it seems he was prepped and ready for this encounter. Could this be the first time he met Blue? If this is a flashback, it will be the first time a Jurassic film breaks the linear story conventions, and has exciting implications.

The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer is coming soon – but not soon enough. Stay tuned! We’ll update this article as more information becomes available.

Do you think this is Blue as a baby, or is it her offspring? Sound off in the comments below, and let us know!

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Trailer Launching After December 1st with Contest to See it Early!

Update: When we ran the article, the contest specified the prize being a chance to see the Jurassic World 2 trailer early. It has been updated to say a ‘Jurassic Experience’ – though we’re comfortable in assuming the trailer is part of that experience.

While the exact online debut date for the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer remains burried, we know it will arrive no later than December 13th with Star Wars The Last Jedi. Now thanks to an official contest being hosted by the Mexican branch of Universal Pictures via their Jurassic World Facebook page, we know it will come no sooner than December 1st.

This information comes via a new contest to see the trailer early, and the last chance to enter is December 1st – therefore, the trailer will not hit publicly prior.

To enter in the contest you must live in Mexico and follow the contests other terms and conditions. The contest requires players to rapidly enter answers for 10 Jurassic Park related questions – so good look to all those involved! We suspect if you’re visiting our site, you have more than a good chance to get all of them correct. At this point, it is unclear how winners will view the trailer and if travel is involved – however, there will be 150 lucky Jurassic fans.

While there is no evidence of similar contests in the US, UK, or other territories, we suspect they will see similar announcements soon. We’ve reached to Universal to find out if other countries will have a chance to enter, but have not received a reply as of running the article.

The Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom trailer has some competition in early December, as the Avengers Infinity War trailer is rumored to release December 4th. It seems unlikely that the Fallen Kingdom trailer will drop prior, as the contest ends on the 1st – so perhaps the official trailer debut date for will be near the 6th or the 7th, with the early viewing beforehand.

Stay tuned – we will update the website as we get more information about the trailers release date, and if other countries are launching similar contests.

McDonalds to Offer Jurassic World Happy Meal Toy This December!

Celebrate Christmas and the Holiday Season this year with a Jurassic World Happy Meal toy from McDonalds. This upcoming range of toys only offers one Jurassic World item, which is part of the McDonalds ‘Holiday Express’ fictional train lineup. Check out the picture below!

The Jurassic World Happy Meal toy is simple but cute, featuring a Tyrannosaurus Rex under Jurassic Park gates, atop a train car. It’s curious that the gates are clearly Jurassic Park, not world, and use the red font face, while the train car features a Jurassic World logo. With the disjointed branding, this perhaps remains the best way to hit two birds with one stone, and celebrate the legacy of the franchise under the new name.

Other Universal Pictures films join the Holiday Express such as Minions and The Secret Life of Pets – but it’s not just limited to Universal. My Little Pony, Transformers, Barbie and Hot Wheels also join the fun, making this one of the more cross branded Jurassic marketing outputs in recent times.

McDonald’s previously promoted Jurassic Park in 1993, with a series of collectors cups sporting much loved artwork based upon the iconic film. These cups today remain a sought after collector item, namely for how great the unique artwork really was. Check out the ‘dino size’ promotion below!

Perhaps this is a sign of things to come, and McDonald’s will offer a fully featured promotional lineup for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom in June. While it was recently reported on Reddit that Dairy Queen would return to the Park in 2018, it’s very possible they’re one of many fast food retailers joining in on the dinosaur craze.

Will you be picking up the Happy Meal toy? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for the latest news!

It remains unclear what exactly was filmed, and if the actors were there as themselves, or if they filmed any in character content for other purposes. We reported last year that Universal had acquired some domains that could be potentially used for the upcoming sequels viral advertisement, and this could very easily be related!

Stay tuned – if we learn more about what was shot we will be sure to update the article. As always, sound off in the comments below, and let us know what you think was filmed at the NHMLA today!

Universal Studios Japan Announces New Parade Featuring Jurassic World!

When it comes to Jurassic Park, Universal Studios Japan gets all the good stuff. Their dinosaurs look more accurate to the films, their encounters are more robust, and their rides are newer, with more variety. So it comes as no surprise that Universal Studios Japan is getting an epic new parade with Jurassic World as a headliner. While details are still few, the piece of key art released paints an exciting picture.

Read the first details about the Universal Spectacle Night Parade in the press release below!

Universal Studios Japan will introduce a new large-scale project in 2018, the world’s first next-generation parade, “Universal Spectacle Night Parade – Best of Hollywood”, which will revolutionize the traditional experience.

Universal Studios Japan continues to invest in new experience to bring park guests innovative entertainment.

The “Universal Spectacle Night Parade – Best of Hollywood” will celebrate 4 of Hollywood’s most fan favorite films, including “Harry Potter” “Minions,” “Jurassic World”, and making their Park debut in the parade “Transformers”, the born-in- Japan entertainment brand with its popular toys, games, animation and feature films.

J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World and its captivating magic, the Illimination’s “Minions” and their mayhem, theenormous robots “Transformers”, and the realism of the “Jurassic World” dinosaurs come together to be recreated in a continually changing entertainment spectacle. Park guests will be completely enveloped and fully immersed in this brand-new and continually changing entertainment, which far surpasses the traditional theme park parade experience.

The impossible is made possible with perfect synchronization of projection mapping, which completely cover the surroundings, floats incorporating dynamic movements, high quality film lighting, sweeping cinematic score and performances by live entertainers through the use of “Show Orchestration,” an outstanding technology specially developed by Universal Creative.

Followers of our website will no doubt recognize that Tyrannosaurus Rex render as one of the new pieces of key art being circulated for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – and yes, it appears that the second T.rex in the background is another new render from the upcoming sequel. More eagle eyed readers may also recognize the rocky mountain in the backdrop from the early ‘JW2’ licensing expo banners spotted earlier this year. The red glow from behind also seems to be a hint of volcanic activity, which may well factor into the parade itself.

Considering that they keyart heavily borrows from the upcoming sequel, it is very possible the events showcased in the parade are inspired by Fallen Kingdom. Could that mean a Tyrannosaurus chasing a Gyropshere scene will be featured – or is that simply creative liberty taken while creating the parade? Time will tell!

The final key note of importance is this is the first time the parks have used the branding of ‘Jurassic World’ rather than ‘Jurassic Park’. While it’s only for a parade at this time, it may be a sign of future things to come.

Are you excited for the new parade – and do you hope it comes to the other Universal parks, such at the one in Florida? Sound off in the comments below, and let us know. As always, stay tuned for all of the latest news!

Special thanks to @thepastrypossum on Twitter for the heads up!

Jeff Goldblum Confirms His Role in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom is Relatively Small

Touring the press outlets for his new film Thor: Ragnarok, Jeff Goldblum is undoubtedly being asked about his upcoming role in the Jurassic World sequel, Fallen Kingdom.

While none of the cast are able to reveal too much about the film (too much = anything), Jeff did reveal the size of his role in a reply to my question submitted to the Empire writer, Nick de Semlyen.

“It’s small… who knows, they may cut me out entirely! But if I stay in I’ll be a sprig of parsley or a little garnish, hopefully with some impact!”

While he was no doubt joking about potentially being cut out of the movie (fear not, Malcolm’s in), it was a little bit disappointing to hear that his role is small. While I don’t expect Ian Malcolm to be running around the islands anymore, I was hoping for his character to have a more prominent role, almost in an effort to return the franchise to its thematic roots.

Listen to the whole interview below – the questions begin at 14:13

In what capacity do you think Ian Malcolm will appear in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom? For whatever reason, I can’t help but think we’ll be seeing him in the third act only, potentially establishing the return of more characters in the third film.

We can assume the ending of Fallen Kingdom is going to feel like one big setup for the third movie, and while that’s expected in this day and age of blockbusters, I do hope Malcolm is given proper treatment.

His character’s change from Jurassic Park to The Lost World is memorable and to me, one of the most important takeaways from the 1997 follow-up. Director Steven Spielberg executed his character’s progression perfectly – and logically. After what they saw and experienced on Isla Nublar, having Malcolm return as a cooky, sleazy theorist wouldn’t work. His experiences shifted him, changed him.

It’s exciting to think about how Malcolm has changed since 1997 – and what his views on Jurassic World are. For some reason, I don’t think he’s a fan…

Huge thanks to Nick at Empire for getting my question in there! Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
