Chronicle 1:5 Scale Female T-Rex Bust Available For Pre-Order

Chronicle Collectibles today announced that their Female 1:5 scale T-Rex Bust is now available for pre-order at $650.00. There currently is no official ship date, but the bust is scheduled to start shipping in the 4th quarter of 2017. After 30 days the pre-order price goes up to $750, so don’t miss your chance to save now! The edition size is TBD, but don’t miss out – only 350 male Tyrannosaurs were made. (PSA: 10-month payment plans are offered!)

After receiving a multitude of feedback from our dearest customers, we are releasing the Female version of our T-Rex Bust. This iconic piece is not a modified version of the male bust. We were fortunate to procure an original casting from a wonderful friend and customer, Jonathan Chu, who graciously allowed us to mold and cast her for this production.

The Female T-Rex Bust was designed to match in a combined display with The Lost World: Jurassic Park 1:5 scale T-Rex Bust that was previously available to order. This product is wall mounted and is roughly the same size as the male version; 16″ in diameter for the base and 19″ from base to nose.

Visit Chronicle Collectibles official website for more information and photos of this rare collectible. So what do you think about about this new bust and do you plan to spare no expense and pre-order? Let us know in the comments below and on our forums.

Toy Fair 2017: New Jurassic World VRSE Headset & Game coming this Fall!

Toy Fair 2017 has officially kicked off in New York City, and while it appears neither Mattel or Lego have anything Jurassic World there, a company called  Skyrocket Toys has filled the void. While little is known about the product, Newsday unveiled the set in their article about the hot new 2017 Toy Fair items.

Jurassic World VRSE: A virtual reality system from Skyrocket provides a 360-degree experience that brings to life the Jurassic World adventure. The set comes with a VR headset, motion controller with a case and a free downloadable game. For ages 8 and older. $59.99, available fall 2017

UPDATE – new pictures and info (via pocket-lint.com at London Toy Fair) :

Early prototypes from London Toy Fair

“We got to try one of the VRSE virtual reality headsets on Vivid’s stand at Toy Fair but because the design was not finalised, couldn’t bring you our own pictures. However, we still thought it worth of inclusion as the headsets and, specifically, the licensed games are good quality.

There will be two in the initial range, based on Jurassic World and Batman. Each will cost £70, which gets you the headset, a themed Bluetooth controller and an app download. You use either and Android or iOS smartphone in the visor to provide the screen.

Where we think VRSE differs from most other “toy” VR devices we’ve seen in the past is in the content. We had a brief go at an early build of the Jurassic World app and there are several mini-games and experiences included – with actual gameplay and thought gone into them. It’ll be available in July so we’ll take a more in-depth look closer to the time.”

Images from New York Toy Fair

Unfortunately there are no other details at this time, but it’s intriguing to note that this isn’t just a viewing experience like the past Jurassic World VR game – this has a controller, and gives the player the ability to move around. A long while back we heard that a Jurassic World VR experience was being created to allow players to visit the open parks dinosaur exhibits, and while we have no idea if this rumor was true, perhaps it was indeed tied to this item.

Judging by the included controller, the free game experience must be simple in play mechanics, and is unlikely to be related to the ‘Jurassic World Survivor‘ game by Perfect World Entertainment. Check back often, as more details surface we will be sure to share! Skyrocket Toys is at booth 3019 at New York Toy Fair, so if you can visit them, take pictures, ask for more details, and relay them all our way!

The Entire First Season of the Cancelled Jurassic Park Television Series Revealed (Exclusive)

At long last, we’re happy to exclusively present the entire story arc of the first season of Jurassic Park the animated series – straight from the story treatment created in the 90’s. ‘Escape from Jurassic Park’ was meant to be a prime-time television series, utilizing state-of-the-art animation to directly followup the events of the first film – however it was cancelled before fully going into production. Unlike other animated series, this was not meant to be a cartoon aimed at younger audiences, but rather targeted at the audience of the Jurassic Park film, which it would be tonally consistent with.

article-tease

Sadly, the animated series was eventually cancelled before completion, and was seemingly lost to time. But much like the study of dinosaurs themselves, we did some intensive digging and uncovered the remains of something long thought extinct. This story outline was created at the now defunct Universal Cartoon Studios in 1993 – prior to the theatrical release of the film. Development lasted for some time, before the project abandoned in 1994.

EscapeFromJPEscapeFromJP2
Scans for authenticity – full transcript of the script below.

This (non final) story outline was used as the basis for the script and series development, and was only seen by key individuals, such as Steven Spielberg. It’s currently unknown if more detailed scripts existed for the episodes within, or if an outline for Season 2 was ever explored. Every day new discoveries from the Jurassic past are revealed, so if you have anything to share please do not hesitate to get in touch! Until more information is uncovered, enjoy the first ever, and quite possibly the only reveal of ‘Escape From Jurassic Park’!

After digging in, be sure to read our breakdown below, and view the art gallery from the series:

READ THE STORY BIBLE HERE!

What a wild ride that story is – and a cliffhanger ending at that! It’s not entirely clear why the series was abandoned – some reports say Steven Spielberg pulled the plug after getting frustrated with all the merchandising for Jurassic Park while working on Schindler’s List. However, while there may be some truth to that fact, I have also heard he may have pulled the plug to avoid overlap, or canonical inconsistencies with the planned theatrical sequel (something I have heard happened again with a Jurassic World animated series).

The story shares many similarities with Michael Crichton’s ‘The Lost World’ – which was released in 1995. These include Lewis Dodgson, and a BioSyn team stealing eggs from nests to build their own park elsewhere, all while animals show up on South American mainland leading to a government coverup (due to fears of it hurting tourism). Of course, there are many differences as well – the animated series takes place on Isla Nublar, the home of Jurassic Park, while The Lost World takes place on Sorna, Site B. Further, the outbreak of dinosaurs on mainland is due to BioSyn, who purchase 100 square miles in The Amazon to build ‘DinoWorld’ – a fully fledged Dinosaur safari park with hotels, monorails, and more (much like the park in Jurassic World, ‘DinoWorld’ is inspired by Disney World.)

The story featured many brand new concepts and  dinosaurs – some even got Kenner tie-in toys in 1994, including the “Dino Wranglers”, and the fanged Lycaenops, or the Komodo Dragon-like Ornithosuchus. I think perhaps the most intriguing part is Season 1 ends with Jurassic Park finally opening to the public (much to the dismay of Malcolm, Grant, and Sattler) . You could easily imagine the second season following a similiar arc of  the story presented in Jurassic World, only with BioSyn shenanigans, the threat of animals on the mainland, and 100% less militarized hybrids.

I’m certainly bummed that the series was never developed – although, it would admittedly have greatly impacted the stories of future films. In a lot of ways, this is the sequel fans have imagined for years, yet never got, loaded with healthy doses of childhood imagination interjected with Michael Crichton’s themes and story development. Before we close off, I want to present a gallery of the stunning artwork created by William Stout, a key mind behind the ill-fated series:

The entire short film will be released on YouTube split into 5 episodes this week, totaling in 24 minutes of LEGO laughs.

“Playing with the characters, dinosaurs, and environments of Jurassic World in LEGO form through the playsets and video games is one of the most popular ways for fans to experience the franchise,” said David O’Connor, Executive Vice President, Global Brand Marketing & Partnerships, Universal Pictures.  “By creating new narratives and additional storytelling through this fun LEGO animated short, we’re able to showcase the lighter, more humorous side of the world’s most popular dinosaur brand.”

Update: You can now watch the entire 24 minute short film on NETFLIX now! Don’t have access to Netflix? Watch the episodes below, and read on to learn how to buy the film in stores!

Want to own the ‘The Indominus Escape’, and see it as a complete short film? You’re in luck! Starting October 18th, you can buy the short in DVD format bundled with Jurassic World – plus another exclusive 8 minute LEGO short is included!

Believe it or not, ‘LEGO Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape’ is the first time the Jurassic franchise has seen an official animated outing. While it’s not an expansion of the canonical fiction, it certainly is a fun idea and hopefully will be the tip of the iceberg for brand evolution. The LEGO Movie was absolutely brilliant, and I know I’d love to see some Jurassic characters make a cameo in the sequel.. however, I’d like to see an expansion of the canon via a comic series, TV series, novels, or cartoon even more!

Review: Hasbro Jurassic World ‘Hybrid Rampage’ Indominus Rex

The fearsome hybrid Indominus Rex is terrifying and unpredictable. Born in captivity, she on the loose stalking her prey. Watch out! She’s rampaging across Jurassic World!

HRIboxed

Hasbro’s Jurassic World ‘Hybrid Rampage’ Indominus Rex is now appearing in stores and online, retailing at $34.99. This is a brand new sculpt, and was first shown off at Toy Fair 2016. Measuring 22 inches long, she is actually about 2 inches larger than the 2015 ‘Bad Boy’ Indominus Rex. She features articulated legs, left arm lever activated ‘Chomping Jaws’ & ‘Fang Reveal’,  button activated ‘Spike Reveal’, and a free to move articulated right arm. Plus, she’s electronic and features numerous different roaring sounds! What’s not to love?

HRIbanner

The first thing that stands out about this toy to me is its clean, crisp white coloration. While it has a tendency to wash out in photos a bit, it really pops and looks fantastic on the toy. The color scheme shines with the addition of the clearly defined reddish orange striping patterns running the length of her head and body, applied with a mildly metallic sheen. Her underbelly, hands, and feet are painted with an incredibly metallic gold paint – it looks really good in my opinion, but could have used better blending work. The orbital and fenstra sockets are filled with a dark, brownish purple paint which gives her face a sinister and skull like appearance. The eyes are nicely detailed, conveying a mean look, and featuring four different colors. The inside of the mouth is painted a solid, flat dark purple, and the teeth a cream color – sadly the claws are unpainted.

OpenMouthCLose

The detail work on the sculpt is really great, and captures the Indominus Rex fantastically – albeit with larger, more stylized spikes. The teeth, claws, scutes, spikes and other finer details are all shaped very nicely, while still lending themselves to safe play. The skin detail feels very hand crafted, with each scale and scute inter-playing with the muscle and skeletal structure – something most Jurassic World toys were severely lacking. Unfortunately, the right flank of the toy features six visible screw holes, however these are far less offensive than those seen in prior releases. The biggest issue with the sculpt is the feet. While they look great, they are not proportioned for the weight of the toy, leading to major balance issues (surely to frustrate both kids and collectors).

Screw Holes

The toy is made out of hard plastic which is fairly lightweight. It doesn’t feel as cheap as generic toys offered by competitors, though its lightness does feel quite strange for a Jurassic Park toy and gives a sense of added fragility. The sound quality sits at a nice middle ground, neither too loud nor too quiet. The sounds can accidentally activate in play, as the jaw hinge is loose and can open and close from momentum rather easily. Otherwise, the sounds are activated by the spike reveal button on her left flank, and the ‘chomping jaw’ activation via her left arm.

SpikeReveal

The spike reveal works rather nicely – one firm push of the button, and they pop out and stay in place. Another push, and they recede back into the neutral pose. The chomping mechanism is a lot of fun – when it works. It has a tendency to get stuck, and not complete its activation without further nudging of the arm. Ideally, the arm is pulled back, and upon release it resets and activates a randomized amount of chomping motions (up to 14), plus different roars. It’s quite cool when it works, but I worry that so many reports of it being faulty straight out of the package may lead to complete brokenness via casual play.

Rawr

The toy sizes nicely compared to the rest of the Jurassic World lineup, and Jurassic Park toys of the past. This toy has notably more size to it (helped by better proportions) than other large offerings from the 2015 range, and is quite eye catching. Not only is it longer that the previous large Indominus Rex, it stands taller at the hips, and is wider overall. Its head and arms are lightly smaller, and legs slightly larger, but all look more natural. Honestly, this is the perfect sized toy.

Bad Girls

Overall, this is easily my favorite toy from the Jurassic World lineup, and is the first that looks at home next to past Jurassic Park items. I really dig the sculpt, colors, play features and sounds – but am certainly bummed by the quality control issues on the chomping mechanism, plus item balance. For a collector it’s frustrating, but for a parent it’s a nightmare and for a child, a letdown. However, overall this toy skews positive in my eyes – and it’s important not to forget that target audience:

(Used with permission)

If that adorable video doesn’t prove this toy is a must buy, I don’t know what will. Should future releases have the chomping gimmick fixed, and feature better balance it’s a near perfect toy. Hopefully the QA issues are short lived, as this overall is something special (in fact, it also may be the last big Dinosaur from Hasbro as Mattel is taking ownership in late 2017). If those issues did not exist, I would note the room for improvement in the gold paint blending, and perhaps continuation of the red stripes to the tail.

New Jada Toys 1:24th scale Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler!

Jada Toys recently revealed via Instagram that the previously teased 1:24th scale Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler would be released this fall. While they have yet to post anything to their website yet, eBay store ‘Minineopet‘ has seemingly gotten the items in stock, giving us our first look! Take a look at the images below!

s-l1600

The 1:24th Jeep Wrangler measures 7 in (17.8 cm) long, and features rotating wheels, plus an opening hood and doors. This is an accurate representation of the 1992 Jeep Wrangler featured in the film, which is a first – the previous 1:43 scale Die Cast from Jada was not an entirely accurate model like so. The final retail price has yet to be officially revealed, but will likely be between $14.99~$19.99.

JadaJeeps

Interestingly, the toy features Jurassic Park Jeep #12 which Dennis Nedry drove, and was not featured in Jurassic World (like #29). That perhaps makes the usage of the same Jurassic World merchandise packaging with that ugly generic looking Tyrannosaurus a pinch confusing, as something more closely themed with the first film would feel at home. Either way, this a piece fans and collectors have wanted for years, and it’s great to see it finally come to fruition!

Things have been fairly quiet lately, but this is just the calm before the storm. Jurassic World 2 begins filming around February of 2017, and news is sure to begin flowing soon. Further, Jurassic World the Exhibition comes to the US in November of this year, first stop Philadelphia PA!

As always, stay tuned for the latest news and sound off in the comments below!
