World’s First Screen Accurate Replica of the Jurassic Park Night Vision Goggles!

It has been 24 years since Jurassic Park thrilled audiences upon release and still to this day the fandom is growing, with fans across the globe collecting and trading merchandise, making their own Jurassic Park Jeeps, visiting the filming locations, writing fan fiction, and some are even involved with creating prop replicas to match their on-screen counterparts.

JurassicCollectables has spent the past year building a screen accurate replica of the Jurassic Park night vision goggles and today he has debuted them! Four years of research have gone into this build which included sourcing every original part to ensure these goggles were 100% screen accurate.

Without further ado, we present… The Goatfinder Mark I!

These iconic goggles feature just before the main road attack in Jurassic Park – while searching in the rear of the tour vehicle, Tim finds the goggles and uses them to look for the goat that was used to lure the female Tyrannosaurus into view of the guests. They also feature in Jurassic World where Gray picks up an old pair from a maintenance shed behind the Visitors Center.

    

Dubbing this build the Goatfinder Mark I – JC successfully completely the project this month and even spoke with Special Effects Technician Michael Lantieri, who built the original goggles, and has signed this pair.

Amazingly, JC was able to source the same exact lenses used in the goggles which turned out to be from a 1990s Konica Aiborg. While researching for this build, Chronicle Collectibles shared some photos of the original screen used prop which allowed him to ensure accuracy with the shape, colour and finer detailing.

“I had to spray paint the goggles in the kitchen, which made my wife really pleased. I kept the room well ventilated but I wiped down surfaces afterwards and there was a bit of green paint on everything – even on the pepper grinder”

Along with the goggles and as part of his press release, JC has produced a fantastic behind the scenes video (embedded above!) that showcases the goggles in all their glory, and details his design and build process over the past year. It’s worth the 10 minute watch, and having been lucky enough to see this project develop over the past year, I’m excited to finally see it all come together!

Hurricane Iniki halted Jurassic Park production 25 years ago today

Before we start this story, the team of Jurassic Outpost would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to those who have been affected by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

Unfortunately this time of year is known for hurricanes and on September 11, 1992, the production of Jurassic Park had filming temporarily halted as Hurricane Iniki, a category 4 hurricane, hit the island of Kauaʻi as well as other Hawaiian islands. Today marks the 25th anniversary of this natural event.

LEGO to release 10 Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom sets in April 2018!

Hold on to your bricks – LEGO is returning to Jurassic World in a big way. Following the release of the LEGO sets in 2015, there has been a void of the beloved construction blocks for the Jurassic franchise – despite many ‘LEGO Ideas’ sets gaining huge support. LEGO continued to support the franchise however with the release of the digital feature ‘LEGO Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape‘, yet new sets still alluded store shelves.

However, next year with the release of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom that will change:

As you can see, there are a total of 10 sets planned – 5 standard LEGO sets (75926, 75927, 75928, 75929, 75930), 3 LEGO Junior sets (10756, 10757, 10758), and 2 DUPLO sets (10879, 10880). At this time, it seems that all will be themed to Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, and not have ties to Jurassic Park 25th anniversary. For those unfamiliar, while DUPLO sets use plus sized blocks and are aimed at preschoolers, LEGO Juniour uses regular blocks, and are fully compatible with standard sets – they are just more simple to build, and aimed at younger audiences. It is also suspected though unconfirmed that there will be at least one additional standard set exclusive to a retailer, perhaps Walmart, like with the first Jurassic World.

2015 Jurassic World Set

While no details about the sets are currently available, it is still exciting to get confirmation LEGO will return to Jurassic World in a big way. Further, there are two very cool details within this document that are easy to miss as important, the first being the logo. As you can see, the Logo is the Fallen Kingdom logo, but it does not feature the subtitle – it is likely this will be the logo used on most of the merchandise for the upcoming film (as oftentimes studios simply market the brand name, not the individual films). The second detail is the the April release date – this is likely the street date for all the merchandise, and when you can expect many items in stores such as the new toy line from Mattel.

What type of sets do you want to see from LEGO for the upcoming sequel? While the Jurassic World sets were nice, many weren’t exactly film accurate, and we’re hopeful LEGO will pay closer attention to accuracy with their Fallen Kingdom lineup. Jurassic World Evolution takes place on Isla Nublar and the surrounding islands of the Muertes Archipelago!

Yesterday’s announcement of Jurassic World Evolution didn’t hide the fact that the game took place on the home of Jurassic Park and World – Isla Nublar. However, the full press kit has shared additional and exciting details about the upcoming video game that are sure to excite super fans. Most intriguingly, Jurassic World Evolution will include ‘The Five Deaths’ – aka Isla Sorna and its surrounding islands.

The Muertes Archipelago was first introduced in The Lost World, and while little is known about the islands outside of Isla Sorna, the other islands (Isla Matanceros, Isla Muerta, Isla Tacaño and Isla Pena) are known to be dangerous by locals. Do they also sport wild dinosaur populations, perhaps escaped from Sorna? And the bigger question is does this have any relevance to Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, which is also mentioned in the press kit?

Frontier Developments plc today announced its new game, Jurassic World Evolution, and revealed the first trailer. Based on Universal Pictures’ iconic film franchise and created in collaboration with Universal Brand Development, the game expands on the official Jurassic World mythology and puts players in charge of cinema’s greatest tourist destination – where they will have the opportunity to create and manage their own Jurassic World. Launching in summer 2018, Jurassic World Evolution will be coming to PC, the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, and the Xbox One all-in-one games and entertainment system.

“As long-time fans of the entire Jurassic series we’re thrilled to be putting players in charge of their own Jurassic World,” said Frontier’s Chief Creative Officer, Jonny Watts. “We’re excited to bring over fifteen years of management, simulation, and creature development expertise to a destination and franchise that remains an inspiration to us.”

Jurassic World Evolution evolves players’ relationship with the Jurassic World film franchise, placing them in control of operations on the legendary island of Isla Nublar and the surrounding islands of the Muertes Archipelago. Players will build their own Jurassic World as they bioengineer new dinosaur breeds and construct attractions, containment and research facilities. Every choice leads to a different path and spectacular challenges arise when ‘life finds a way.’

The game is scheduled to release next summer and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will be in theatres June 2018.

Another key bit of info in the kit is the phrasing of “bioengineer new dinosaur breeds” – does this mean the ability to create your own hybrids, as seen in the mobile Jurassic World game will make an appearence? Hybrids are seemingly here to stay with the franchise, so our bet is on yes (plus even the title Evolution hints at the concept). As long as the game puts the focus primarily on the many ‘real’ dinosaurs of Jurassic Park, World, and the various sequels I personally will welcome hybrids.

Chronicle Collectibles announced that their Jurassic Park 1:5 Female T-Rex will be available for pre-order on August 25, 2017 at 12pm CST. The box dimensions will be roughly 8′ x 4′ x 4′ and will weigh roughly 150 pounds crated. Only 100 pieces will be available and will cost $4499.00. The usual payment plans are being offered including a 16 month plan.

Park building videogame ‘Jurassic World: Evolution’ announced! PC, Xbox One, and PS4 – Summer 2018

The much anticipated and long overdue announcement has finally come – there is a full AAA budget Jurassic World video game in development! Announced during the Xbox conference at Gamescom, ‘Jurassic World Evolution’ made its debut with a fantastic, full CG trailer. Check out the trailer below, and read on for every detail we know!

“Create your own Jurassic World in Jurassic World Evolution. Coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in Summer 2018.

Build your own Jurassic World, bioengineer new dinosaur breeds, and construct attractions, containment and research facilities. Every choice leads to a different path and spectacular challenges arise when ‘life finds a way.’”

Jurassic World Evolution is a park building simulator, much similar to the fan favorite ‘Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis’ which was released in 2003. Evolution is being created by the longstanding Frontier Developments, the studio behind Zoo Tycoon, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and much more! While little is known about the game itself, it is fair to assume it will feature in depth park management, creation, and dinosaur containment scenarios. In fact, the end of the trailer seems to hint at a storm system threatening the park, something Operation Genesis was known for!

If you are unfamiliar with park building games, check out the footage below from Jurassic Park Operation Genesis, which should give a fair idea of what’s to come.

Expect many dinosaurs and features in Jurassic World Evolution – and while it has yet to be said officially, expect many tie ins to the upcoming sequel Fallen Kingdom which also releases Summer 2018! Perhaps the volcano will play a part?

The known dinosaurs featured in ‘Evolution’ include Tyrannosaurus Rex, Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Apatosaurus and Triceratops – expect many, many more!

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom to be Really Intense + SDCC News Roundup

It’s been quiet. Perhaps too quiet. And while we decided against picking something off our secret news pile, it was an interesting couple of weeks and allowed us to anticipate what the studio might do next.

San Diego Comic Con was quiet with no studio presence, but as is tradition – Chronicle Collectibles debuted a number of new products at the event, and had guest speaker Glen McIntosh of ILM there, who was the animation supervisor on Jurassic World and animation director on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom!

Jurassic fan Victoria got to speak with Glen at the Chronicle booth and managed to score some tidbits from the upcoming sequel, including a rumour that the film was originally going to be titled Jurassic Earth.

However, we have since heard that this was merely a misinterpreted joke between Glen and Chronicle. He spoke very highly of the sequel however and said “it’s gonna be really scary, really intense, to a level that I think we haven’t seen before” and went on to compliment the creative team behind the film:

“Colin’s script, JA’s direction, they’ve really pushed the envelope of the intensity and I think that’s supported by the cinematography, there’s very harsh lighting. It’s gonna look fantastic.

At the booth Glen was gifting fans with free sketches of dinosaurs from the series and showed video from a motion capture screen test he was working on at ILM – showcasing a man in a motion capture suit animating a Velociraptor live, seen through a monitor in the foreground.

Amazing new Jurassic World concept art recaptures the magic of Jurassic Park

Jurassic World released in 2015, but new concept art continues to surface, providing beautiful looks behind the scenes of design. The latest batch of images come from concept artist John Bell, who has long time been associated with the franchise, starting with the first Jurassic Park! He’s the artist of many iconic designs you know and love, and contributed to the Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler, and much more!

As expected, his Jurassic World designs are nothing short of stunning, and provide a tantalizing look at the early, alternate story and art. First, let’s start with his park map:

While the park layout varies from that seen in the final film, with main facilities near the coast rather than an inland lagoon, it altogether looks familiar. It even includes the now much important volcano! However, the real standouts in the image are scene descriptions, many of which were not in the final version of Jurassic World. These scenes include “Red & Raptors attack Stegosaur herd”, “Pteranodon Monorail attack”, and featured different characters by the names of ‘Nick’ and ‘Tim’.

Further, it includes alternative attractions, such as a public Raptor show, a rollercoaster, a Pachycephalosaurus show, and a Brachiosaurus restaurant. Finally, rather than featuring a Mosasaurus as seen in the film, it featured a Plesiosaurus.

The rest of the art is perhaps less revealing, but no less striking, filled with beautiful colors, detail, and imagination:

Personally, I find these designs immediately more appealing than what was put on display in the final film, capturing the magic of Jurassic Park in a way we just didn’t see. The final movie featured a park that could have been anywhere in the world, and more often than not, didn’t create its own unique visual identity. I’m bummed we didn’t get any of what was on display here, as it really has a wonderful Disney World goes Jurassic Park look that I never knew I wanted until now.

Crash McCreey’s 1:1 Baby Raptors Diorama Available For Pre-Order

Chronicle Collectibles today announced that their 1:1 scale Crash McCreey Jurassic Park Baby Raptors Diorama is now available for pre-order at a special sale price of $550.00 for the first 30 days when you purchase direct. The diorama is 18″ long, 9″ tall and 12″ deep. Each Baby Raptor is roughly 12″ long. There currently is no official ship date, but the diorama is scheduled to start shipping in the 1st quarter of 2018. 3, 6 and 10 month payment plans are offered!

Mark “Crash” McCreery always knew that he wanted to “do dinosaurs”. After graduating from the Art Center College of Design in 1988, Crash went on to work with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Stephen Hopkins for Predator 2, Tim Burton for Edward Scissorhands and James Cameron for Terminator 2. Just after attaining an Academy Award nomination for his make-up design for Batman Returns, Crash got the opportunity to work with Steven Spielberg on Jurassic Park.Crash was given the challenge to create a whole new vision of dinosaurs based on new science and ideas of what dinosaurs really were. Jurassic Park was kept secret in the early stages of pre-production, so Crash worked in solitude for an entire year while he sketched and drew dinosaur renders. Once the actual production started for the film, Crash and Stan Winston brought these dinosaurs to life through puppetry and radio- and cable-controlled performances. Crash even donned the full size Raptor suit that he designed as an on-set puppeteer.

Crash rendered hundreds of drawings for Jurassic Park. One that was never fully realized in the film is the drawing of the baby raptors playing together shortly after hatching from their incubated eggs. Since the Velociraptors were so terrifying in the film, maybe portraying them as cute, almost domesticated creatures wouldn’t fit. Thankfully, Crash and Universal have allowed Chronicle Collectibles to create a three dimensional product of this adorable artwork.
