It appears LEGO still has a few surprises up their sleeve for Jurassic World!

This evening, images of new Jurassic sets hit the web, and much to the joy of fans, one includes the much anticipated return to Jurassic Park in celebration of the films 25th anniversary. While the box-art remains Jurassic World focused, the set itself is based within the control room of Jurassic Park, with a nod to the lab and kitchen. The classic set joins another World based set, featuring another fan favorite: the Dilophosaurus. The images and descriptions have surfaced on Walmart.com, and while it’s not confirmed as such, they’re thought to be exclusive to the retailer. Check them out below!

Michael Giacchino Begins Scoring Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World composer Michael Giacchino announced today that he has begun recording the music for Fallen Kingdom!

In a tweet that was accompanied by a photo taken inside the recording studio, the composer revealed the news to fans, which signifies that the film itself is very likely picture locked.

Michael Giacchino has previously composed the score for Jurassic World in 2015, and has a history of working with the franchise with credits that include video games Warpath: Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

With J.A. Bayona’s Jurassic World sequel, Fallen Kingdom looking like it’s adopting a slightly darker route than it’s predecessor, do you hope the music follows suit? Do you think we will be hearing more of a The Lost World: Jurassic Park inspired score for our second outing to Isla Nublar, this side of the millennium?

Only time will tell, so stay tuned to Jurassic Outpost for all the latest news and be sure to follow the man himself for hopefully more Fallen Kingdom teases.

Mattel Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Thrash N Throw T Rex Video Review!

Mattel have spared no expense.

That is the resounding impression I have been left with after going hands on with their Jurassic World line at New York Toy Fair, and now with my very own here at home. I knew the toys were good when I saw them on display – but could they really stand on their own, were the paint applications really that good – you never know until you have the final item.

As it turns out, there was no smoke and mirrors. The toys have continued to impress with their outstanding quality, and innovative and fun play features. The new Thrash N Throw Tyrannosaurus Rex perhaps is the most innovative of the bunch, taking the typical large biting Rex toy and throwing in a new range of motion for exciting, and lifelike movement.

Check out the video review below, and read on for more specific impressions.

About the toy:

Thrash & Throw Tail Activation
Thrash ‘N Throw Tyrannosaurus Rex™ can use her tail activation to open her mouth and pick up other human and dinosaur action figures, and then thrash and throw them across the room just like epic dinosaur action scenes from the movie!

Ages 3+
SRP $39.99
Releases April 16th, 2018

The Thrash N Throw Tyrannosaurus Rex measures about 21 inches long, stands on its own, and can roar, bite, stomp, and thrash its head with a total of 7 sounds. You can control the motions by moving its tail up and down, as well as left and right, which translates to the inverse motion on the head. The more you play, the more you can find ways to fine tune her movements, which can be surprisingly lifelike.

With the biting feature, you can have the T. rex lunge downward, biting and picking up other dinosaurs or humans that sit below her – from there you can thrash her body and head back and forth, until throwing the dino-food, much like the scenes in the Jurassic Park films.

The toy is large and detailed, with the most film accurate sculpt the series has seen! Not only does she have the bumps and scales she’s famous for, she has her scars from the end battles of Jurassic Park and World, easily making the toy a must for kids and collectors.

A fun new feature of this toy line is the Jurassic Facts App – each dino has a DNA strand QR code on their foot, which unlocks them within the app. As of the time of filming this review, the app was not yet available, however it has since launched on IOS. Check out our article here!

Mattel’s Jurassic World Toy Tie-in App Launches, Revealing New and Classic Dinos!

In what seems like a never ending blitz of news over the past few days, more Jurassic secrets have been revealed!

Mattel has just launched the Jurassic World Facts App on IOS (Android is sure to follow soon), and it has revealed many new species of dinosaur which are getting toys! For those unfamiliar, every main line Mattel dinosaur action figure has a QR code on the bottom of their feet in the shape of the DNA strand – with this app, you can unlock the species as part of your digital collection by scanning the code, which then offers more content to explore!

You can take quizzes and learn about each species, to level up and become a dinosaur expert in this fun new learning and collecting based app! The app features 4 distinct zones of Isla Nublar: the Carnivore Paddock, Herbivore Paddock, Aviary, and Lagoon. Even if you do not own the toy, you can still preview the dinosaurs by shining a flare on them, which has provided a great sneak peak at some of the toys to come!

Classics:

Some of the classic dinosaurs coming from Mattel are the Jurassic Park 3 Male Velociraptor, The Lost World Pachycephalosaurus, and The Lost World Juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex. As you cannot see the dinosaurs very well before you own them, it’s hard to say what other classic dinosaurs may be mixed in – but we hear you’ll be able to see more from the ‘Legacy Collection’ based upon the first 3 Park films soon!

New:

Also revealed, are some brand new species such as Proceratosaurus and Minmi (which were spotted at Toy Fair) plus Dimetrodon and Monolophosaurus. Also of note, there is a Spinosaurus toy coming – but it remains unclear if it is a new design, or part of the Legacy collection. These species seem to be part of the expanded universe, and not Fallen Kingdom dinosaurs.

Pachyrhinosaurus Conundrum:

When Fallen Kingdom was in development, one of the dinosaurs featured in the film was a Pachyrhinosaurus. However, the design continued to evolve until it became a Sinoceratops (though the name change did not occur until fairly recently). As such, all Fallen Kingdom merch labeled Pachyrhino was switched to Sinoceratops – but this has come with a snag:

Mattel and the Jurassic Facts App did not base their Pachyrhino on the movie design, and rather based it off the real block nosed animal. While Sinoceratops has a very different frill and a long nasal horn, as seen in the film, the Mattel output was still hit with the name change. We assume the app will be updated to revert the dinosaurs name to Pachyrhinosaurus, and the toy will be released under the appropriate species ID.

Variety:

The Jurassic Facts App not only has numerous distinct dinos, it also offers a ton of variety within each species. You’ll be able to own 11 different Velociraptors, 3 different Blue’s, 6 different Dilophosaurs, 2 Baryonyx’s, 8 Gallimimus, and more! While some of these toys are simple repaints, others are completely new sculpts, and each offer a different in game model.

Be sure to check out our review of the Mattel Action Attack Carnotaurus and Stegosaurus below, where you can see an example of the way the QR codes are incorporated, and stay tuned for all the latest news on everything Jurassic!

Jurassic World: The Exhibition Heading to Paris, France this April!

The next stop on the tour for Jurassic World: The Exhibition has officially been announced, and after two stops in the United States it is heading across the pond to Europe. Starting on April 14th, it will be located in Paris, France at the Cité du Cinéma until September 2nd.

Inspired by one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of cinema, this event immerses young and old in the scenes inspired by the famous film. Here, the imaginary park comes alive … right under your eyes.

Discover Isla Nublar in VIP class and explore Jurassic World. Open your eyes in front of the imposing Brachiosaurus; talk face to face with a Velociraptor and approach the worst of all, the terrible Tyrannosaurus rex.

Created in close collaboration with a renowned paleontologist, Jack Horner, the exhibition is rich in interactive and educational content from scientific research on dinosaur DNA, discoveries that have allowed Jurassic World to come to life. Whatever your age, these incredible prehistoric creatures will have no secrets for you.

Signs like the one above have begun appearing around the region advertising the Exhibition coming to France.

While it isn’t a surprise that the Exhibition will be making a stop in Europe, it is a surprise that it is doing so in 2018. Cityneon Holdings Limited, who acquired the global rights to the Exhibition this past August had stated in their January Company Guide that two more United State cities were on deck for 2018. The show was then expected to move to a European city and Asian city in 2019. A second Jurassic World: The Exhibition traveling set is also currently under construction for a debut in Europe in 2019.

Obviously things can always change, and they have has as the orginial traveling set (JW1) is moving to Europe this year, which begs the question of where the second set (JW2) will actually make it’s debut in 2019. As more details on future city locations become available we will keep you updated.

This will be the fourth stop for the Exhibition so far after debuting in Melbourne, Australia at the Melbourne Museum. It followed up that with stays in Philadelphia at the Franklin Institute and Chicago at the Field Museum. Both of the last stops being in the United States.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and on our forums.

Special thanks to Jurassic World News France for the heads up on the announcement that the next stop will be in Paris, France.

New ‘Jurassic World: Alive’ Game Teases Pokemon Go Style Experience!

Hold on to your butts, and get ready… to clone them all?

It feels like it was just yesterday when the Pokemon Go game launched with a social media explosion, bringing that world to life in ours via a clever AR experience. One of things Jurassic fans kept bringing up was how amazing a Jurassic Park game offering the same experience would be – and it seems Universal Pictures and Ludia thought the same thing!

Launching this Spring, ‘Jurassic World: Alive’ sets the dinosaurs free across the world!

They’re ALIVE in our world!

Dinosaurs have returned to rule the Earth. They have fled Jurassic World on the unstable island of Isla Nublar….and they’re roaming free in your cities and neighborhoods.

As a brand-new member of the Dinosaur Protection Group (DPG), your mission is to save dinosaurs from a second extinction. Explore your surrounding area to find your favorite dinosaurs – including new breeds that are more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Activate augmented reality (AR) to interact with these unbelievable creatures in the real world.

Track these magnificent animals with a drone and collect DNA samples needed to level up and create hybrids in your Lab. Then, assemble the perfect dinosaur strike team and take on dangerous threats in real-time PVP arena battles!

EXPLORE your world with location-based technology and discover dinosaurs on a map. Identify behavior patterns to track specific species in their natural habitats.

COLLECT rare and powerful breeds by flying a drone with precise accuracy. Capture DNA samples and maintain a full roster of thriving prehistoric animals.

CREATE hybrid creatures by combining the genetic traits of multiple species to develop their strengths and abilities.

BATTLE a strike team of dinosaurs to defend against threats to your mission and challenge others in real-time PVP competitive arenas.

EARN rewards such as in-game currency and battery life for your drone by finding Supply Drops on the map.

SHARE your legendary dinosaur collection with friends by posting your AR images and videos to your social pages!

“We really see this game as the future of the Jurassic World franchise on mobile. This is really the first time that we have allowed you to take the dinosaurs off the island and out of our storytelling world, and into your real world.” – Chris Heatherly – Universal Pictures Executive VP of Games

One of the key differences between Jurassic World Alive and Pokemon Go is that to play the game and obtain new creatures, you won’t actually need to explore in real time (though that element is supported). Instead you can send out a ‘drone’ from your house (or workplace, school and so on) to scout out the dinosaurs and collect DNA, offering more ways to play, keeping the game fresh if you’re anchored to one spot.

The game is launching with over 100 dinosaurs, but the goal is to constantly update the animals available within the world, adding to diverse roster of prehistoric titans. Further, you can create your hybrid dinosaurs from the DNA you obtain in game, allowing you to create any dinosaur of your choosing to collect and battle!

“There’s a major focus in this game on the hybrids and super hybrids to create this almost infinite matrix of possibilities” – Ludia CEO Alex Thabet

Video Review: Mattel Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Action Attack Stegosaurus!

Hot off the heels of our Action Attack Carnotaurus review, we have the striking Stegosaurus from Mattel!

It’s no secret the 2015 Jurassic World toys from Hasbro weren’t what fans were looking for, with a genuine lapse of quality that effected play factor for kids. Thankfully Mattel heard the comments of fans and parents alike, and answered with a toy line that has eclipsed our admittedly tough expectations.

Innovative features, competitive pricing, and fantastic quality have brought the dinosaurs to life with an incredibly diverse array of play patterns with an attention to details fans are sure to love.

The Mattel Jurassic World toys are made to properly size with one another, using the 3.75″ human action figures as the base scale – the Tyrannosaurs are appropriately large, towering over the smaller species like Dilophosaurus. The Stegosaurus is a large toy, measuring about 15 inches long, and features numerous points of articulation and a button activated tail swinging mechanism. As part of the Action Attack SKU, it is available alongside the Carnotaurus with a Suchomimus coming later this year.

While the toy is painted differently than the Stegosaurus of the film, the color and paint application used is quite aesthetically pleasing, and the sculpt is certainly accurate. The sculpt has lots of detail, and is quite sizey, making it easy and fun to play with, or great looking to display on a desk or shelf. The Action Attack feature is fun, and simply requires a firm press down on the rear plate for a fluid swinging motion.

As Mattel continues to roll out new toys, this Stegosaurus will remain much sought after, as for the time being, it’s the largest herbivore they’re offering. However, there are plenty of medium-large herbivores coming, in the form of the Roarivores Triceratops, Ankylosaurus, and Pachyrhinosaurus.

Check out a wide range of the Mattel Jurassic World toys, including the Action Attack Suchomimus, from our Toy Fair 2018 gallery on Facebook here!

A fun new feature of this toy line is the Jurassic Facts App – each dino has a DNA strand QR code on their foot, which unlocks them within the app. As of the time of this review, the app was not yet available, but we will cover it once it goes online! Stay tuned- we have more reviews of the Mattel toys coming soon, including the incredibly fun Thrash N’ Throw Tyrannosaurus Rex!
