It’s always fun waking up to news, and with the Jurassic World sequel’s production offices now based in London, there’s a stronger chance that I’ll actually catch the news as it’s shared.
News on the sequel has been quiet with only some casting information dripping out, but now director J.A. Bayona has shared his first photo for the sequel – which shows some scratched/dirty Jurassic World worker hardhats!
The image is captioned: “Getting ready for the journey.” and the image itself indicates that the production team are finalizing the props for the film, which begins shooting next month.
The hardhats are not from Jurassic Park but we know from reference images that they are the same as the ones that the Paddock Supervisors wear, mostly seen around the Indominus Rex paddock.
The difference in the photo Bayona shared is that they have the full colour logo instead of the stencil logo. The full colour logo is seen on the white hardhat in Jurassic World that Zach and Gray find in the jungle. It is also found on the Masrani Global website.
Our friends at Reel News Hawaii have also weighed in, suggesting that the hats could also be the orange Jurassic World construction hats that were used while the park was built!

Jurassic World 2 begins filming in roughly one month, but is still shrouded in mystery. While news has been slow, we’re excited by the latest casting announcement: Variety reports that Daniella Pineda has joined the upcoming Jurassic Park sequel in a leading role!
Pineda is perhaps best known for her role Vanessa in the TV comedy ‘The Detour’ on TBS. Other roles include that of Ruby Simms on American Odyssey, and Sophie Deveraux on ‘The Originals’ and ‘The Vampire Diaries’. As Variety notes, this will be her first major theatrical role in Hollywood.
The cast for the Jurassic World sequel is finally shaping up with her inclusion, as she joins Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Justice Smith, BD Wong, Toby Jones, and Rafe Spall. At this time, it is unclear what role she will be playing, other than it will be a lead. While little is known about the plot, you can check out our comprehensive speculation article!

During a video interview recently, which Jurassic Outpost has been unable to verify the date or the exact source of the interview at this moment, Justice Smith expressed his excitement for the upcoming Jurassic World sequel. It was first reported on December 1st by The Hollywood Reporter that Justice Smith was added to the cast. There have been unverified rumors that he could be playing a character by the name of “Clint” in the sequel.
Hi guys, it’s Justice Smith. Hello. Jurassic World 2, I can’t talk about it, but it’s going to be really cool. There’s going to be dinosaurs and stuff. So look out for that.
There is then a question to him about something at the end of May where he responds that he will be in London until June filming the Jurassic World sequel. There has been rumors that the end of filming would be sometime in June or July, so if Smith is there on the last day it appears filming is scheduled to wrap up sometime in June. Though there is always the chance Smith is scheduled to end his filming before the rest of the actors. See the full 28 second clip below.

So while there is not a whole lot of information in the clip itself it is still exciting to see the cast talking about the production which is going to kick off real soon. It’s now 2017, and the still untitled Jurassic World sequel begins filming this year. In fact, it begins filming in just one month at the end of February! While nothing official has been revealed about the plot yet, some tantalizing details have been hinted at by director J.A. Bayona, and writer/producer Colin Trevorrow. By piecing together what they have said, and coupling it with newly uncovered domains purchased by Universal Pictures we may finally know the Jurassic World 2 premise.
The two new domains purchased are certainly tied to the Jurassic World sequel, and are both key to deciphering the plot, but not on their own – we must first decode their meaning from hints about the story which the production team have given prior.
(Warning: while this article is pure speculation based upon interviews and domains, mild spoilers may exist)
We know Jurassic World 2 will be a darker/scarier, more serious film than its predecessor and more akin to the first Jurassic Park tackling more complex themes. While that sounds awesome, it doesn’t tell us much about the plot. Thankfully, more specific hints were given:
So, now the real kicker – the domains Universal Pictures purchased December 15th, 2016 : IslaNublarRescueMission.com and AllCreaturesHaveRights.com (and .org). The former is likely a website planned to be directly related to the film, while the latter may be something viral (like MasraniGlobal.com).
New Universal Pictures domains tied to Jurassic World 2
First things first, we are returning to Isla Nublar (the home of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World) – and the story will presumably revolve around a rescue mission. Our first thought was that we have already seen a rescue story twice, once with The Lost World (Sarah Harding), and twice with Jurassic Park 3 (Eric Kirby) – but then we began thinking about the other domain, which hearkens back to the plot points shared above. Could the rescue mission not be to save human life, but rather dinosaur life – which certainly mankind is responsible for creating?
It stands to reason that after the Jurassic World incident, not only has the park closed, but the fate of the island may be in question. We have no doubt that that world will be a little less fond of having an island full of escaped, breeding dinosaurs – the threat of them becoming free in less isolated ecosystems is nothing short of hazardous. Invasive species of the non extinct variety already threaten the delicate balance of the food-chain in the real world: letting these creatures loose could have longstanding effects, creating the very chaotic butterfly effect Ian Malcolm predicted in 1993. So, again, after the Jurassic World incident it would not surprise us if the governments of the world are humoring their destruction for the ‘greater good’.
Bary and Blue – Jurassic World (2015)
Thus sparks the debate: would a mass euthanization be ethical? Do these extinct animals have rights, or are they simply dangerous corporate property? As this debate likely rages on (and for good reason, we’d be pro-dinosaur, but it’s foolish not to consider the danger they present to the natural ecosystem) certain more empathetic parties will wish to take action, to protect the animals. Those who had a hand in their creation (such as Claire Dearing) have all the more motivation to get their hands dirty in protecting them – and of course Owen Grady would have more reasons than most to protect their livelihood, due to his relationship with Blue the Velociraptor.
We feel confident in saying Jurassic World 2 features a rescue mission on Isla Nublar to protect the dinosaurs (due to the domains), but the real question is from what (and is that the full story)? It’s certainly plausible that government entities wish to firebomb the island, much like the end of the first novel – but the more we thought about that, the less it made sense. Where could they bring the dinosaurs to live which both escapes those who sought to destroy them, while not needlessly presenting a risk to mainland ecosystems? We know Masrani Global owns Isla Sorna as well, but again, if Nublar was to be destroyed by outside forces, why not the other island? Now enters the third piece of the puzzle.

In late November, one of our team members Ryan saw an update to JurassicWorld.com – it featured an image of a Volcano, with the word ‘EPOCH’ in bold text over-top of it. When he clicked the link, it brought him to a non-existent page, and upon clicking back the image was gone. Our theory is that Universal was toying around with a Jurassic World 2 title and premise reveal, and that Epoch is part of the larger title (The Next Epoch: Jurassic World, perhaps?) and accidentally published too soon. So, humoring this, using a Volcano in the imagery was likely significant – we know one exists on Isla Nublar (Mount Sibo) – could the force that threatens the existence of these animals be an imminent eruption?

Jurassic World originally involved lots of artwork with Volcanoes, and even one of the toys showcased this concept. The Volcano is featured on the park brochure, website, and in-universe map (seen as Owen preps to use the Velociraptors with InGen). Colin Trevorrow has previously stated that the Jurassic World films were envisioned as a trilogy, and it’s likely the inclusion of this volcano was carefully planned to enable the sequel.
With all the above information, here is our best guess at a synopsis:
As an imminent volcanic eruption (or government sanctioned firebombing) threatens the fate of Isla Nublar and the dinosaurs on it, a fierce debate erupts in favor of their destruction. Despite arguments against this, Claire Dearing and Owen Grady feel a certain responsibility to launch a rescue mission to try to relocate the animals somewhere safe.
Now of course, we have no idea how Dr. Wu and InGen factor into this story concept – nor do we have any real clue if we’re on the right track or not -but time will tell! As much that remains unknown, the domains purchased certainly paint an interesting picture about the future of the franchise. Jurassic World 2 begins filming in London this February 27th, and stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong, Justice Smith, Toby Jones, and Rafe Spall – surely news is around the corner so stay tuned.

Legendary Entertainment founder, chairman and CEO Thomas Tull has resigned under pressure after selling the company to China’s Dalian Wanda Group for $3.5 billion in January of 2016. Tull served as an executive producer on 2015’s Jurassic World and his company Legendary Entertainment served as a production company on the film in association with Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.
“We are thankful to Thomas for his founding vision of Legendary as well as his commitment, leadership and partnership this past year. He will forever be part of the company’s already rich legacy and powerful DNA,” said Gao in a statement. “As we move forward, Wanda aims to transform Legendary into a next generation studio of the future with a far-reaching creative and global platform. We look forward to working with the creative team to manage our already viable film slate with more to come in the near future.”
While there was never any official announcement from Universal Pictures, many assumed Legendary Entertainment would again serve as a production company on the upcoming Jurassic World Sequel with Tull returning as an executive producer. However, after the company was sold to the Dalian Wanda Group and with Tull’s exit from the company, its pretty clear he will not be returning as executive producer on the sequel and the prospects of Legendary Entertainment returning are not guaranteed.

Legendary Entertainment’s relationship with Universal Pictures has been shaky as of late with the studio being upset with Tull taking more credit for the success of Jurassic World then he deserved. The Hollywood Reporter detailed the strain between the two companies in September of 2015 after Universal let the rights to the upcoming Kong: Skull Island film go to Warner Brothers.
Universal Pictures’ decision last week to let Thomas Tull’s Legendary Pictures take its Kong: Skull Island project to Warner Bros. in the midst of a five-year production and financing deal is being read as a symptom of relationship trouble between the companies.
Several sources say there has been strain, in part because Tull kicked off the deal in 2014 with a couple of clunkers that he put through Universal’s distribution system and then upset some at the studio who feel he has indulged a bad habit of wrapping himself in credit for hits that he merely helped finance. In this case, the film at issue was the biggest movie of the year to date, Jurassic World.

With cameras set to start rolling this March and with casting well underway, the sequel to Jurassic World is squaring up to be a monster hit, with director J.A. Bayona taking the helm and bringing on his cinematographer to help bring the movie to life.
As many expected, the period leading up to filming would be a quiet one, with only tidbits of information being released. Those working on the movie have their lips sealed shut, but returning actress Bryce Dallas Howard has expressed her excitement for the filming and for bringing her character, Claire Dearing, back in the sequel.
In an new interview with JoBlo, Bryce shared a little about her character’s transformation:
That’s part of the story, that’s part of the journey. She definitely went through a lot and is permanently changed because of that. But she is also who she is. Chris [Pratt] and I are already having a lot of fun with that. We’re in that stage right now of figuring out the backstory and talking through all those beats, like everything that happened in between. That’s always such a fun time. You’re like, ‘No, she did that?! No way, he couldn’t have!’ It’s really, really fun, and then you step into the present moment and it becomes alive.
While this – for the most part – is nothing new, it’s refreshing to learn that both actors are taking the time to truly figure out their character’s backstory, and share with one another just what Claire and Owen have been up to, post Jurassic World.

As 2017 roars in, the Jurassic World 2 news machine shows every sign of ramping up. The movie, which begins filming this February in London according to producer Frank Marshall, is said to be a darker and scarier sequel taking inspiration from the original Jurassic Park. Recently, director J.A. Bayona joined Collider to promote his new movie “A Monster Calls”, which opened wide today, and towards the end of the interview he talked a bit about the upcoming Jurassic sequel.
When the subject movies to Jurassic World (around the 9 minute, 20 second mark) Bayona reiterates it will be a darker and scarier film, but also reassures the movie will still have a sense of fun, in part due to Chris Pratt’s Owen. The subject then shifts to the classic Michael Crichton novels, as the interviewer asks if any material from them will make it to the film. J.A. says that he loves the science of the novels, and did return to them for inspiration, but then the subject goes slightly astray, and Ian Malcolm gets brought up. J.A. Bayona wastes no time enthusiastically stating “He’s a great character!” before dropping the subject.
Now, of course this doesn’t mean Malcolm is returning in Jurassic World 2 – but that won’t stop us from hoping for his return! If there is one character from the classic Jurassic Park films that would make sense to see in the mix of things again, it’s Malcolm. His character would bring a welcome injection of science and cynicism that Jurassic World was missing (in my opinion), and plus the charisma of Jeff Goldblum would be welcome anytime. Perhaps this is the “closer connection to Jurassic Park” which was previously hinted at by Bayona?

In June 2015, a rumor had surfaced that the recently closed Cryptic Studios Seattle location was working on a secret Jurassic World video game. In November of that year, we shared screenshots and art from the game posted by artists who had worked on the project – they had thought their contract was voided as the studio closed, but soon after the publisher Perfect World went after them. We had removed the pictures as a favor to the artists, but as many of you know, the story had already went viral.
Some time went by without an update, and most assumed the project was extinct – but in June of this year we had heard the project was still alive, and being developed at another studio. Today this news has been confirmed with recent trademark applications of the games title: Jurassic World Survivor.
The trademarks were applied for on December 24th, 2016 – so it’s likely an announcement is right around the corner. Doing further digging, I discovered www.JurassicWorldSurvivor.com was purchasedby Perfect World Entertainment, the projects publisher, in October of this year. The game was initially planned for release on Steam Early Access before going wide on consoles in 2015 – and while the development has changed hands, and the project no doubt evolved, perhaps a similiar roll-out will occur.
The game itself is shrouded in mystery, though it was reported to be an open world third person survival game taking place on Isla Nublar. Similar to titles such as H1Z1, crafting and player interaction was to play a role – though it was apparently light on story. However, since its delay it is likely the scope of the title has continued to expand and evolve in the hands of its new developer (likely Cryptic Studios California). All we know is the play style and story concept are married with the title: survival. Reportedly, it takes place during or shortly after the events of the Jurassic World movie, and centers around player created characters simply trying to outlast the subsequent carnage.
Whether or not the upcoming title will have any easter eggs or tie-ins to the currently untitled Jurassic World sequel remains unclear. However, this game definitely presents an opportunity to do so, and as the upcoming IDW comic series will tie-in to the 2018 film, it’s not improbable this will as well.
Stay tuned: an official announcement of the game is surely coming soon! While it remains unconfirmed, I wouldn’t be surprised if the title is released some time in early, or mid 2017. As always, sound off in the comments below, and let us know what you want from the game!
Jurassic World 2 has added a crucial player to the team: the incredibly talented Cinematographer, Oscar Faura. Oscar has previously worked with director J.A. Bayona on The Orphanage, The Impossible, and A Monster Calls – all of which are beautifully shot films. This news come straight from J.A. Bayona himself on Twitter.
Cinematographers work with the director to define the visual style of the film, and are in charge of the camera operation. Faura is a newcomer to the Jurassic cinematography family, which includes Dean Cundey (Jurassic Park), Janusz Kamiński (The Lost World), Shelly Johnson (Jurassic Park 3), and John Schwartzman (Jurassic World). Each of these talents brought a unique look to the franchise, and Farua will certainly provide an incredibly striking refresh. There is no doubt in my mind his inclusion will lead to one of the best looking films in the franchise.
Jurassic World 2 begins filming in Hawaii and London March 2017, and releases June 2018. More crew and casting news is surely around the corner, so stay tuned!
