Mondo Games Announce New Board Game ‘Jurassic Park: The Chaos Gene’!

With the massive influx of games available for iPhones and Androids that have flooded the market in the past few years, new board games seem to be coming few and far between. But, Jurassic fans are in luck: as reported by Cinapse on Twitter, Mondo Games has just announced the upcoming release of a new Jurassic Park board game!

The game was announced at MondoCon 2017 in Austin, Texas, on November 4th. Titled Jurassic Park: The Chaos Gene, it looks to be an officially licensed Jurassic Park product, joining the ranks of Mondo’s previous Jurassic Park releases.

Mondo is known for its screen-printed posters and artwork of cult classic and contemporary films and TV shows, as well as its toys and vinyl film soundtracks. They also run popular film blog Birth.Movies.Death. in conjunction with Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas.

From the photos released by Cinapse, we can tell that the game is going to be a four-player, asymmetrical board game – meaning simply that different players in the game will have significantly different capabilities, resulting in a unique gameplay experience. (For example, in the card game Raptor, one player is a mother raptor trying to protect her young, while the other is a scientist trying to capture the babies.)

In addition, we know that Mondo Games’s Luke Byers is the head of design for the game, along with Joe van Wetering, Joe Wiesch, Jay Shaw, and Matthew Woodson, with Woodson functioning as the game’s illustrator.

According to Eric Vespe, the playable characters are include InGen, Park Guests, and a pack of three Velociraptors. At the moment, no design or plot-related information about the game has been released outside the MondoCon panel, but we will be sure to update as it is released.

Finally, while not related to the upcoming board game, Mondo has announced a few other future Jurassic Park items. These range from a Tyrannosaurus and hatching baby raptor tiki mug set, or the upcoming T.rex and Velociraptor ‘Mondoids’. New Jurassic Park Collectibles Coming Soon from Iron Studios!

Looks like the market for Jurassic Park collectibles is expanding – Iron Studios, a collectibles company based in Brazil, has acquired the license to produce official Jurassic Park products!

The company announced the upcoming release of their first Jurassic Park products with a video on their Facebook page, simulating the inside of one of the tour Jeeps from the original film, captioned simply with, “Park will open in December.”

On their website, the studio describes themselves as “a developer and producer of highly detailed collectible figures…the first Brazilian company with 100% official products aimed at collectors”. Currently, the studio also produces officially licensed collectibles for DC Comics, Star Wars, and Marvel Comics, geared towards “fans passionate about their favorite pop culture characters and the hobby of collecting”.

The first pieces of Iron Studios’ Jurassic Park collection will be unveiled in December at Comic-Con Experience (CCXP) in Brazil, one of the largest comic conventions in the world. The studio is working closely with Universal Pictures to create a exciting presentation that will do justice to the legacy of the franchise.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Luke Skywalker Collectible by Iron Studios

While the first items to be released will be from the original film, the studio is open to producing collectibles from other Jurassic Park films – including Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom – in the future. No word yet on what characters will be featured in this first release, but since Iron Studios primarily produces human figures, perhaps fans can expect to see something of the original trio from the first film.

Iron Studios wants you to know they are huge fans of the Jurassic Park franchise, and are investing a lot of time and effort in the project to make the best products possible for fans. More information on the collection will be released on the studio’s Facebook page in the coming weeks as CCXP rolls around.

First Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Merchandise Begins Roaring In!

Next year we will be celebrating 25 years of Jurassic Park. From roughly January to April 2018, Universal Pictures will actively promote and celebrate the original movie, with the later months of the year being dedicated to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which releases June 22 2018!

You may remember earlier in the year we discovered the official 25th Anniversary logo on an Amazon listing for a wall calendar, and now, thanks to the wonders of the world wide web, we are beginning to see more of the new products and collectables that will drain our bank accounts next year!

First up from Iron Gut Publishing we have this Jurassic Park Collectable Coin 25th Anniversary (silver plated). This piece is numbered and embossed on both sides and is limited to 5000 pieces. The coin releases this November – check out more here!

First LEGO Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Set Descriptions! (Possible Spoilers)

Hold on to your bricks – and while we think this article is free from any real spoilers, take a potential spoiler warning… just in case.

Earlier today, LEGO fansite Bouw Steentjes shared the first details and descriptions of some of the upcoming Fallen Kingdom sets. They based their descriptions off of alleged images, but did not post the pictures themselves – as such, an appropriate level of skepticism should be applied, but it does align with what we’re hearing.

We previously reported there would be at least 10 sets, and now have descriptions for four of them from the main line – as of now no additional information is available about the DUPLO or Junior sets. As the original post was in Dutch, Twitter user Arjan Bos was nice enough to provide a translation:

LEGO Set # 75926:

A set containing a blue-grey 4×4 vehicle with a Pteranodon. There is one minifig in the set.
Priced 24.99 EUR

LEGO Set # 75927:

Looks like the Jurassic World Raptor escape. The difference is that the set looks more like a residence instead of a cage. The walls are high and there’s some kind of stage on which a minifig can stand. Looks like it only contains one raptor and two minifigs in the set.
Priced 39.99 EUR

LEGO Set # 75928:

A set with a helicopter, which, from what we can take from the picture, can capture a dinosaur from the air. The dino most likely being a raptor. Also a small vehice is included, probably a quad. Number of minifigs unknown.
Priced 59.99 EUR

LEGO Set # 75929:

This is a more expensive set, containing a big transport truck, like seen in 75917 Raptor Rampage, a gyrosphere, a tower with grapple hook and a T-Rex. The number of minifigs is uncertain, but it looks to be 4.
Priced 79.99 EUR

Pteranodons, Velociraptors, and Tyrannosaurs – oh my! While the descriptions leave a lot to the imagination, they do seem to be in theme with what we know about the latest Jurassic Park film. Namely, dinosaur capture/rescue operations. We’re sure one of the Velocirators will be Blue, but are certainly curious about the others! The LEGO Jurassic World 2018 lineup hits shelves April 16th, and is expected to be unveiled at the New York Toy Fair in February.

Finally, while not LEGO related, we have a small picture update of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom promotional displays (shoutout to Fede on Twitter for the heads up!). Shared by JPItalia on Facebook, these images come straight from a licensing expo in China. While many of the assets are recycled, we have a good look at the new CG model for Blue and “Roberta” (the original Jurassic Park T.rex)

New Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Banner Premieres at Brand Licensing Expo

The marketing campaign for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom is finally kicking into gear. Last night Universal Pictures held private parties to kick off BLE 2017 celebrating their numerous brands and upcoming films, Jurassic World being one of them. These parties were held at the Aqua Kyoto and London Palladium, both in London. Word is both Colin Trevorrow and Bryce Dallas Howard made a surprise visit, and one would presume showed off footage from the latest sequel, perhaps even an early cut of the trailer – however, that was all behind closed doors, and will remain a mystery.

Thankfully, the public show floor of Brand Licensing Europe in the Olympia London has been decked out with Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom displays, and we can take a look in all its glory!

The incredible promotional banner above comes courtesy of @MegaPowerBrasil on Twitter, and features a great look at the new Fallen Kingdom Tyrannosaurus Rex and Blue. While the image of Owen is a cool inclusion, it’s actually a picure from the first Jurassic World, reused in this new banner. Odds are if a similar banner hits theaters, it will feature Owen in his new Fallen Kingdom costume instead.

This isn’t the first time we have seen that Tyrannosaurus render – it’s been spotted on recent merchandise items from catalogs that we previously reported on. However, this is certainly our best look at it – and look at all that detail! It seems Universal is also offering a photo-op with the keyart via a green screen, which is demonstrated by this post on Instagram:

That background is looking quite ominous and volcanic. Speaking of which, another trade show recently occurred, and while no images surfaced from the show floor, this post did surface via Karton PP. There is no mistaking that artwork as anything but an erupting volcano!

Digression aside, we’re not done with what BLE 2017 has to offer. Universal’s booth features another Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom display, and this one is epic. Universal Pictures have offered a very cool photo opportunity, recreating a small diorama of the first promotional still from the film, bringing in a large Ceratopsian skull for maximum wow factor!

What’s curious, is the skull is different than the one on display in the official still – while that one was a “Fake-a-saurus” version of Triceratops, this seems to very much be a real dinosaur, perhaps a Pentaceratops. Did they change the skull on display in the film – or was that unique skull simply not available to put on display? Either way, this is a very cool setup and I would love to see this used widespread as a promotional standee. The photo-op potential is fantastic!

Of course, as of now no new Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Merchandise has been revealed, nor has anything for Jurassic Park 25th anniversary. However, Universal just announced they are partnering with Funko, Build a Bear, and many other vendors for the Jurassic brand, and it’s quite possible Brand Licensing Europe may still bring an official first look.

Universal Announces New Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom License Partners Including Funko and More!

Universal Pictures announced new license partners and further elaborated on their plans for Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom at Brand Licensing Europe 2017 today. While it was announced last year that Mattel had acquired the master license from Hasbro, LEGO maintaining their involvement was only corroborated by leaks, but this press release confirmed that and much more.

Most excitingly, the announcement confirmed the addition of FUNKO as a partner. Yes, it seems likely Jurassic Park Pop! Vinyls are on their way. Read the press release below (Via Toynews-Online):

Universal Brand Development has announced the global merchandising program for Jurassic Word sequel, The Fallen Kingdom, with toys hitting retail in Spring 2018.

Master global toy partner Mattel and LEGO Systems will lead the retail roll-out with toys across a variety of play patterns and age segments, additional toy, role play and costume licensees supporting the second film include Funko, Build-A-Bear, Rubies, Wowee and more.

“The Jurassic World franchise has always had huge cross-generational family appeal, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom promises to be one of the biggest movie and merchandising events of 2018,” said Vince Klaseus, president of Universal Brand Development.

“Following the success of 2015, we’ve been hard at work to build out the largest Jurassic World program to-date to meet the increasing demands from fans, as well as reach new audiences around the world – demonstrating the global appeal of this 365 mega-franchise.”

Yes, you read that right – additional gaming titles will be announced soon! Could the long anticipated, on-again off-again, Jurassic World Survivor still be extant and waiting to be announced? Time will tell! As for the other brands, Kellogs is making a return, so expect more fruit snacks – and of course Fifth Sun will continue to bring fun Jurassic graphic tee’s to market. We previously covered PEZ as a partner, but it’s great to see some official recognition within this information drop.

Overall, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom is shaping up to be a huge global event that will bring tons of cool products to store shelves and our homes. You better start saving money, because between Mattel, LEGO, and now Funko, it will be hard to do anything but spare no expense. Don’t think you have much time to save either – while Fallen Kingdom merch hits shelves April 16th, Jurassic Park 25th anniversary will likely kick off this January!

Exciting New Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Merch Teases a New Dinosaur!

It’s been a few months since Universal released any information about Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, the last updates being the title reveal in June and the speculated Indoraptor reveal in July. However, that hasn’t stopped license partners from releasing small morsels of information in the form of 2018 merchandise teases.

Thanks to PPR Solutions we have our first look at what appears to be Fallen Kingdom school supplies.

The merchandise provides exciting looks at new promotional dinosaur designs for the film. These include new renders for the T-Rex(the original Jurassic Park T-Rex that first made her comeback in 2015’s Jurassic World), Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and Blue the Velociraptor among others.

The leftmost design with the text “Escape the Island” features a stampede of dinosaurs fleeing some sort of explosion or perhaps the volcano threat that was reported in July as appearing in the film. The rightmost design is perhaps the most exciting promotional picture yet – more on that below.

While there is a lot to digest from the new product images, including a silhouette of the Mosasaurus on the side of the one T-Rex binder, perhaps the most interesting is the eye looking through what appears to be a cage with a hand projecting out. It almost looks like a slender Velociraptor style hand but with the inclusion of a small Indominus Rex thumb. Could this potentially be our first real tease of the “Indoraptor”? While we know really nothing of this new hybrid dinosaur, we can speculate on its appearance based on the previous film and rumors/reports during the filming process. Could the Indoraptor be the dream dinosaur that Vic Hoskins mentioned in the final act of Jurassic World?

“Imagine. That one, a fraction of the size – deadly, intelligent, able to hide from the most advanced military technology. A living weapon unlike anything we’ve ever seen.”

Intriguingly, the artwork of the hand coming through the cage can’t help but remind us of the set photo of director J.A. Bayona with the mysterious dinosaur jaw. Take a close look again at that photo, are those bars of a cage?…..

Finally, in the second image, underneath the fiery Jurassic logo, could that be the Indoraptor skin pattern? Again, all of this is pure speculation on our part and trying to connect the dots of the information that is available – it certainly seems to match the dinosaur in the photo with JA Bayona. It remains to be seen what that mystery cage dinosaur is, and how the new designs play out when it comes to the film – but our best guess is it’s the new hybrid.

Mattel Teases First Look at Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom Toy!

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom doesn’t release until June of 2018, but the toys will come a little sooner – specifically April 16th, 2018. While they have yet to be officially unveiled to the public, we suspect that Toy Fair in February of 2018 will be the date the curtain is formally lifted.

Thankfully the wait was made easier: Mattel officially yet quietly snuck in a first look in a recent article with Fortune!

Fortune recently ran an article titled “Can a Tech Makeover Save the Toy Industry?” where they went deep into the behind the scenes process of toy making with Mattel. It’s well worth the read, so be sure to check it out once you’re done with our Jurassic-centric splinter article. Buried within the article was an image showcasing their prototype creation process (pictured above), and in the mix of prototypes was a clear Jurassic Park Tyrannosaurus Rex head!

Let’s take a closer look:

Right away the sculpt is clearly Jurassic, with a nice attention to detail when it comes to form factor – something recent Hasbro outings lacked. The skull and muscular structure looks dead on. This individual prototype seems to be lacking the finer levels of skin and scale detail, and at this time, it remains unclear if the final item will evolve in those regards. While there’s room for improvement with the aforementioned fine detail, the sculpt shape is the best the franchise has ever seen – especially the teeth, which are surprisingly perfect.

We’re unsure of what exact Tyrannosaurus Rex toy this represents (or if the prototype was printed in the correct size), but perhaps it’s our first look at the “Thrash N’ Throw T-Rex“? Mattel currently has an internal showcase for the Jurassic World lineup for license and retail partners – while we can’t get a look at the toys themselves, we can see a lot of work went into the display (pictured below). Whatever Rex head prototype represents, we’re sure the actual product is on display just out of sight there!

Considering this is the first time a company outside of Kenner/Hasbro has handled the Jurassic license for an action figure toy range, we were nervous about what the future would hold – but as this first look shows, we’re in good hands with Mattel.

World’s First Screen Accurate Replica of the Jurassic Park Night Vision Goggles!

It has been 24 years since Jurassic Park thrilled audiences upon release and still to this day the fandom is growing, with fans across the globe collecting and trading merchandise, making their own Jurassic Park Jeeps, visiting the filming locations, writing fan fiction, and some are even involved with creating prop replicas to match their on-screen counterparts.

JurassicCollectables has spent the past year building a screen accurate replica of the Jurassic Park night vision goggles and today he has debuted them! Four years of research have gone into this build which included sourcing every original part to ensure these goggles were 100% screen accurate.

Without further ado, we present… The Goatfinder Mark I!

These iconic goggles feature just before the main road attack in Jurassic Park – while searching in the rear of the tour vehicle, Tim finds the goggles and uses them to look for the goat that was used to lure the female Tyrannosaurus into view of the guests. They also feature in Jurassic World where Gray picks up an old pair from a maintenance shed behind the Visitors Center.

    

Dubbing this build the Goatfinder Mark I – JC successfully completely the project this month and even spoke with Special Effects Technician Michael Lantieri, who built the original goggles, and has signed this pair.

Amazingly, JC was able to source the same exact lenses used in the goggles which turned out to be from a 1990s Konica Aiborg. While researching for this build, Chronicle Collectibles shared some photos of the original screen used prop which allowed him to ensure accuracy with the shape, colour and finer detailing.

“I had to spray paint the goggles in the kitchen, which made my wife really pleased. I kept the room well ventilated but I wiped down surfaces afterwards and there was a bit of green paint on everything – even on the pepper grinder”

Along with the goggles and as part of his press release, JC has produced a fantastic behind the scenes video (embedded above!) that showcases the goggles in all their glory, and details his design and build process over the past year. It’s worth the 10 minute watch, and having been lucky enough to see this project develop over the past year, I’m excited to finally see it all come together!

Jurassic World almost had a second hybrid dinosaur, and we finally have pictures!

Ah, hybrids. Love them or hate them, you can’t help but be a bit fascinated by their rocky history in the lead-up to Jurassic Park 4. At a very strange point in time, Jurassic Park 4 nearly had dinosaur human hybrids that wielded weapons – thankfully, that idea was quickly abandoned. Jurassic World of course brought the hybrid idea to life with the Indominus Rex, but believe it or not, she almost shared the screen with another fictional chimera.

Enter the Stegoceratops.

Many of you probably already know this weird dinosaur was almost in Jurassic World. It had not one, not two, but three toys, made an appearance in Dr. Wu’s secret lab, and was featured in Jurassic World the Game by Ludia. When it first appeared at Toy Fair 2015, Hasbro claimed it was a fictional creation by their team – but when the movie came out, it became clear there was much more to the story.

Information and images of its role in Jurassic World have remained elusive, but finally some HD concept renders had surfaced thanks to artist Bodin Sterba!

Bodin didn’t have much to say about the Stegoceratops on his blog post, other than it was cut from the film – however, we have heard the scene involved Owen and Claire stumbling upon an adult and juvenile in the wild. Claire expresses her surprise, saying she didn’t know this dinosaur was on the island, and the Stegoceratops charges Owen as he gets too close to the infant. However, some of those specifics remain unconfirmed for now – perhaps more art will surface and tell the story in time!

If you’re wondering why the Stegoceratops was cut from the film, you can thank Colin Trevorrow’s son. Speaking to Empire Magazine in 2015, he had this to say:

“In an earlier draft there was a scene where Chris [Pratt] and Bryce [Dallas Howard] come across another hybrid in the jungle. It informed them that Dr. Wu has been making other hybrids under her nose. Then my six-year-old son watched Return Of The Jedi, and said to me, ‘Dad, if Leia is also a Jedi that means that Luke isn’t unique.’ It was like, ‘Ha! Okay.’ And for some reason I applied that to this other thing and felt like there could be only one [hybrid dinosaur]. The idea that there was more than one made it feel less like the one synthetic among all the other organics, and suddenly it seemed entirely wrong to have it in the movie. I suddenly hated the idea but the toy still exists as a kind of remnant because Hasbro toys are locked a year out.”

I have mixed feelings about the Stegoceratops. I’ve been over hybrids before they were even featured formally, and while I dig the Indominus design, I feel this one is a little too outlandish. I loved the 1998 Jurassic Park toy line Chaos Effect, but I never wanted to see crazy dino hybrids like that in the films.

However, the oddness of seeing Stegosaurus plates and spikes on a Ceratopsian aside, I really like the design. While many assumed the dinosaur was part Triceratops, the design is wholly Nasutoceratops inspired. Remove the hybridized features, and this dinosaur would fit right in the roster of classic animals roaming Isla Nublar – it looks majestic, and oozes that prehistoric Jurassic charisma.
