Béchir Sylvain of ‘Diarra from Detroit’ and ‘Black Summer’ Joins Jurassic World 4 Cast

Haitian American actor Béchir Sylvain, known for Diarra from Detroit and Black Summer, has joined the cast of Jurassic World 4 (possibly Jurassic World: Rebirth), Variety exclusively reports.

From Variety:

“Diarra From Detroit” and “Black Summer” actor Béchir Sylvain has joined the starry cast of Universal’s next installment of the “Jurassic World” franchise.

The Gareth Edwards-directed dinosaur movie is written by David Koepp (screenwriter of “Jurassic Park” and its sequel “The Lost World”) and boasts an ensemble led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Rupert Friend, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, David Iacono and Audrina Miranda.

Principal photography kicked off in June, with the production shooting on location in Thailand, Malta and the U.K.

Sylvain is an actor, writer, director and producer best known for his roles on the hit Starz series “BMF,” Netflix’s horror drama “Black Summer” and the BET+ comedy mystery series “Diarra From Detroit.” The upcoming “Jurassic World” movie is the Haitian American actor’s latest high-profile booking; he recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing a mystery role in Destin Daniel Cretton’s “Wonder Man” series for Disney+. 

Sylvain adds yet another talented, yet somewhat unknown, name to an already excellent cast – full of some great and diverse character choices by the production and Universal Pictures so far. He is known mostly for his television and video game work, having also had roles in Blindspotting and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Like many of the unique actors in this cast list, he has given memorable performances in a variety of projects, and is deserving of recognition and visibility on a larger scale. He may have found just that with Jurassic.

Jurassic World 4 (possibly Jurassic World: Rebirth)’s production is beginning its time in the UK, which makes the timing of this casting announcement slightly interesting. However, Sylvain has likely been on the cast list for a little while, but might have a smaller role than the other cast. That remains to be seen, as does the official title, plot details, and any other information about this movie outside of its release date: July 2, 2025. Jurassic World 4 Wraps in Malta and Enters Final Stretch of Production in the UK

Oy, guv, dinosaurs!

Jurassic World 4 / Jurassic World: Rebirth (likely, but not yet officially) is heading to the UK for its next phase of production after about a month of filming in Malta! Malta production involved all of the film’s stars, who were spotted locally as well, filming in the large water simulation tanks at Malta Film Studios as well as many gorgeous ocean coastline locations. Behind the scenes images and videos from fans on-site in Malta have teased more about the plot and vehicles of the film as production shifts to its final major location – Sky Studios Elstree in the United Kingdom.

Jurassic was no stranger to Malta, and in the modern Jurassic world it is no stranger to the UK. Jurassic World: Dominion filmed at the UK’s Pinewood Studios and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom spent time in the UK as well. Beginning around the week of August 18th and continuing to supposed picture wrap on October 18th, Jurassic World 4 / Jurassic World: Rebirth will utilize soundstages with practical sets and also LED Volume technology at Sky Studios Elstree, a recent production partner of NBCUniversal. Possible practical set builds of ancient ruins have been spotted by fans in the UK as well, and we discussed this in full on a recent episode of the InGeneral Podcast:

Recently (star of the next Jurassic film) Scarlett Johansson’s husband Colin Jost shared some story insights on the film with his friend Q of Impractical Jokers, who said that the story is “fucking awesome,” “back to basics in an awesome way,” and could be “fixing Jurassic Park.” Star Jonathan Bailey also recently shared in an interview that the screenplay “asks some fundamental questions … just like the first movie.” After 30-plus years, what will the seventh Jurassic movie be? Jurassic World 4 Heads to Malta for Next Phase of Production

The production of Jurassic World 4 is heading to Malta for its next phase following over a month of filming in Thailand! Thailand filming included all of the film’s stars and cast in the many lush jungle and gorgeous waterfall, river, and water-filled locations that the country offered. Behind the scenes images and possible leaks tease more about the film, and trademark filings have possibly revealed a title, all as the production shifts to a major new location in Malta – but not in the Jurassic ways you might think.

Jurassic World 4 begins the next stage of its production in Malta primarily in order to film extensively in large water tanks equipped with massive blue wall attachments, likely to simulate larger bodies of water or complete immersion. Water elements have been discussed as playing a major factor in the production and plot of this film. Water finds a way, after all. However, in addition to Malta Film Studios’ water tanks and stages, the production will also make use of Malta’s stunning coastline and open ocean locations.

Jurassic World 4 is shaping up to be visually beautiful, and the nature of production in Malta seems to confirm water settings and ideas are going to play a significant role in this film. The cast are beginning to be spotted on location in Malta as well.

To recap production so far and look at the schedule ahead:

  • Filming began in Thailand on or around June 13th, and wrapped around July 16th 
  • Filming in Malta began in some capacity on July 16th and is estimated to be roughly six weeks in length – with some casting calls indicating the need for body doubles required from July 22nd through August 14th, and others stating the production runs July to September. 
  • Upon completion of filming in Malta, production will move to Sky Studios Elstree in the UK for at least a month of filming on stages and also with LED Volume technology.
  • Jurassic World 4 will wrap in the UK, where the production’s main base is located, on October 18th, but it’s uncertain what the full extent of UK filming will be.

Further adding to the current intrigue around this film during its production are trademark and website filings by Amblin and NBCUniversal for “Jurassic World Rebirth.” Will the title of Jurassic World 4 be Jurassic World: Rebirth?

All indications point to production moving along relatively smoothly and on-time. No film is ever completely perfect, but something feels like it is going right this time for Jurassic. David Koepp, Gareth Edwards, Scarlett Johansson – all top-tier talent. As production wraps for her in Thailand and makes its way to Malta, Scarlett Johansson has not shied away from sharing her enthusiasm and passion for the production in recent interviews on the press tour for her new film Fly Me To The Moon (and let me play among the dinosaurs).

Jurassic World 4 Begins Filming in Thailand Ahead of Four Month Global Production Schedule

Filming has begun on the next installment of the Jurassic World franchise! The Gareth Edwards-directed, David Koepp-written Jurassic Park sequel began filming this week in the beautiful fishing village of Ban Ba Kan, Thailand, and Thailand production is slated to continue from June 13th to July 16th. Also within the latest updates shared by Variety: this movie will be “a completely fresh take launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island.” Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda are set to star.

  • Thailand filming locations also include Bangkok, Trang, Phang Nga, Ao Phang Nga National Park around Koh Tapu, Koh Song and Koh Naka, Phuket, Khlong Rut, Chiang Mai, Huai Waterfall, Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, Koh Kradan, Emerald Cave, Chao Mai Beach, and Trang Province.
  • Production will then move to Malta between July and September, facilitated by Latina Productions and Malta Film Studios.
  • Sky Studios Elstree studio filming in the UK will follow through the presumed production wrap in October.

Audrina Miranda Cast in Jurassic World 4

Joining the ensemble Jurassic World 4 cast with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Rupert Friend, Mahershala Ali, Luna Blaise, and David Iacono is child actor Audrina Miranda, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Miranda began her career in dance performance, working with top choreographers and on projects with Nickelodeon, Dancing With the Stars and NBC’s Lopez vs Lopez. Jurassic media is certainly known for its child characters, so it will be exciting to see how this cast is realized in the story.

David Iacono Joins the Growing Cast of Jurassic World 4

Jurassic World 4 will roar into theaters next year on July 2, 2025, and its cast continues to grow. Director Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic story is gaining characters with David Iacono joining the cast list, reported today by The Hollywood Reporter:

Iacono is known for his work and appearances in The Flight Attendant, Dead Boy Detectives, and The Summer I Turned Pretty, and is also set to appear in Jennifer Esposito’s directorial debut Fresh Kills. He confirmed the news via Instagram:

Mahershala Ali and Luna Blaise In Talks for Key Roles In Jurassic World 4

The casting news for Gareth Edwards’ upcoming Jurassic World 4 continues to roll in: Actors Mahershala Ali and Luna Blaise are in talks for key roles in the film according to The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline Hollywood!

Mahershala Ali and Luna Blaise are both talented dramatic actors who have been a part of numerous interesting projects. Ali is perhaps best known for Moonlight and True Detective, and has also recently starred in Leave the World Behind and the Spider-Verse series. Blaise is best known for her work in the television series Manifest as well as her work in Fresh Off The Boat and Memoria.

Rupert Friend Joins Jurassic World 4 in Starring Role

The cast for Gareth Edwards’ upcoming Jurassic film is starting to come together! According to The Hollywood Reporter, British actor Rupert Friend is joining Jurassic World 4 to star alongside Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.

Rupert Friend is an accomplished actor who has starred recently in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City as well as the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. He’s also known for his roles in Hitman: Agent 47 and Pride & Prejudice.

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and John Mathieson Join Jurassic World 4

The upcoming Jurassic World sequel – slated to release July 2, 2025 – continues to add to its roster of production talent! Lincoln Lawyer and Magnificent Seven actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is joining the film in a lead role alongside Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. Plus, cinematographer John Mathieson, of Gladiator and Logan acclaim, has boarded to shoot the film, which begins production next month in Thailand.

This news was first reported by Deadline, who shared:

New ‘Jurassic World’ Movie At Universal And Amblin Sets Manuel Garcia-Rulfo In Leading Role

Following his breakout role in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is looking to go from defending clients to evading dinosaurs. He is in negotiations to join Universal and Amblin Entertainment’s new Jurassic World movie. Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey are also set to star. Gareth Edwards will direct.

While this will mark Garcia-Rulfo’s biggest film role, he has been busy on the TV front in recent years starting with the Amazon TV show Goliath, which starred Billy Bob Thornton. He went on to land the starring role in Netflix and David E. Kelley’s Lincoln Lawyer, with the third season airing later this year.

On the film side, Garcia-Rulfo will next be seen leading Netflix’s Spanish-language film Pedro Páramo. Based on the seminal Mexican novel by Juan Rulfo, the film adaptation is directed by cinematographer Roberto Prieto making his directorial debut. Other Garcia-Rulfo film credits include A Man Called Otto, 6 Underground, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Murder of the Orient Express and The Magnificent Seven.

He is repped by WME, Ilene Feldman Management, Genuine Artists and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman. 

John Mathieson confirmed the news of his sign-on to Jurassic World 4 via his Independent Talent representation and credit listings.

David Leitch Addresses His Departure from Jurassic World 4

On this the day of our lord Ryan Gosling (and the release day of his new film The Fall Guy) director David Leitch has addressed his involvement in and departure from the upcoming Jurassic World 4. On the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Leitch and his producing partner Kelly McCormick discussed filmmaking in general as well as their conversations towards being attached to the 2025 dinosaur movie. You can listen to the full episode below:

Contrary to prior reporting, Leitch described their side of the situation as ultimately lacking the creative control he and his partner feel they have earned, saying:

“To be asked to be in those worlds, you want to always take the conversation seriously. And I think, you know, we are creative and can find our ways into a lot of things. So it was a really great conversation to have, and like, to be in talks with Steven (Spielberg) and Frank (Marshall) about that franchise that’s so dear to us. It was really a beautiful time.

Ultimately, you have to do what’s best for the movie at hand and do what’s best for you as an artist to make sure that you could make the same movie and you could do it with the parameters that you needed to do. And at some point, we just said, you know… We wanted to give that answer quickly because they have to go make this movie that everyone’s excited to see.

I believe we’ve earned this position… We’re able to choose the movies we want to make and we want to make sure we can have the creative freedom to make those movies the way we need to make them.”

The pair also said that they felt they were “finally acknowledged in the business” when Spielberg approached them and feel “so fortunate” to have spent time with the director of Jurassic Park, who is producing the upcoming film. 

Leitch also expressed admiration for Jurassic World 4’s new director Gareth Edwards, saying he had “love and respect” for the “brilliant” filmmaker.
