No, ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Has Not Halted Production Again

Everybody remain calm.

If you’ve been on social media this evening, you’ve probably seen some distressing news. According to The Sun, ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ had halted production after several crew members test positive for COVID-19 – however we can confirm this report is inaccurate.

As soon as this news began circulating, we reached out to Universal Pictures for comment who were able put our worries to rest, and had the following to say:

“Any reports indicating that Jurassic World: Dominion has halted production are categorically untrue. The production is headed into its fifth day of shooting tomorrow, and we’re thrilled to be back in front of the camera on this incredible project.”

‘Dominion’ is the first major Hollywood production to resume filming after halting production for several months due the ongoing global pandemic. Promising to take safety first, the production reportedly put a 5 million dollar plan into effect which included social isolation where possible and testing for crew members.

It’s worth noting that Universal’s comment does not say whether or not crew members actually tested COVID positive, however some cases among crew seem inevitable. No matter how many precautions are put into effect at Pinewood Studios and on set, the crew still return to their personal homes and lives when not working. This means being around roommates, family, and significant others who are likely being exposed to less controlled environments – not to mention needing to go grocery shopping, travel to and from work, and more.

With that in mind, this is why it’s important for the production to put so many safety protocol in effect, and test frequently. Assuming the report that some crew members did test positive is true, it just means their detection safety net is working as intended. However, it’s also possible that nobody on the crew tested positive at all, as the other information from The Sun was not correct.

Either way, ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ remains on track to continue filming, and with any luck we may see new photo updates from Colin Trevorrow soon. Until then, stay safe, wear a damn mask, and stay tuned to Jurassic Outpost for all the latest news.

Colin Trevorrow Talks Filming Resuming on ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’

In an exclusive interview with Empire, director Colin Trevorrow discusses how the lockdown has affected Jurassic World: Dominion’s shooting schedule, and gives detail into the process of getting the movie filming again.

Colin also confirmed that the scenes filmed earlier this year in British Columbia, Canada were mostly dinosaur sequences, meaning those scenes could still be worked on remotely during the lockdown.

“For many of us, Dominion was already the biggest creative challenge of our lives, before the lockdown. The shooting schedule really worked to our advantage – the first four weeks we put to film were mostly sequences with dinosaurs in them. So that allowed us to get a head start on VFX and workshop some of the newer elements without the pressure of a looming deadline,”

Last month we reported that filming would resume on July 6 and that various safety measures had been put into place to ensure cast and crew protection while returning to work.

Despite those new guidelines ensuring safety for those working on the film, Colin noted the challenge of actually establishing a world that is separate from the current social distancing world we live in.

“I’m confident our guidelines will keep us safe. The hard part will be constructing a creative environment within all the precautions. Once the cameras roll, we have to forget our world and live in the world of the movie. That may take some practice.”

At the beginning of the crisis Colin reassured the cast and crew that they would continue making the movie soon.

“I’ve been really moved by the way everyone has shown support for each other. We’re all fired up to get back to work. This is what we do, and we’re all eager to get back out there and do it.”

Jurassic World: Dominion is the first major production to resume filming since the lockdown began, and begun filming yesterday at Pinewood Studios. Universal and Pinewood are abiding by strict guidelines to ensure the maximum safety of those involved with the production.

The full interview with Colin Trevorrow can be found in this week’s edition of Empire Magazine, available on July 9.

We’ve Got Dodgson Here! Campbell Scott Joins ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ in Iconic Role

Dodgson, Dodson, we’ve got Dodgson here! Breaking just now from Collider, Campbell Scott has joined Jurassic World: Dominion to play the iconic role.

Jurassic fans know we haven’t heard a word about the fate of Dodgson since 1993’s Jurassic Park. Even then, all we got was a few minute cameo where we find out he works for an unnamed company and is trying to acquire Ingen’s dinosaur embryos via Dennis Nedry’s shaving cream CryoCan. Fans of the novel will recall Dodgson plays a much larger role in Crichton’s original story: He plays the head of rival genetics corporation, BioSyn, and ruthlessly attempts to further his agenda of putting his company at the top of the industry.

It’s been confirmed that Dodgson has since been promoted to the CEO of BioSyn, and as an audience we will be re-introduced to him as an “Inspirational, Steve Jobs-type” of industry leader.

Scott’s casting as Dodgson means big implications for the direction Dominion is heading. A confirmation of Dodgson inevitably means Biosyn will play a large role in driving the story forward. Could Biosyn representatives perhaps attended the dinosaur auction in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom? Have they progressed to human cloning and need Maisie for some reason? Did they obtain the assumed lost CryoCan in 93, and have then been creating their own dinosaurs all along? The possibilities are endless, which leaves us excited to see what Colin Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael will present on screen.

Dodgson was originally played by Cameron Thor in Jurassic Park – the role has been recast for Jurassic World Dominion due to Thor’s conviction as a sex offender.

Campbell Scott is an American actor best known for his roles as Mark Usher on House of Cards, Joseph Tobin on Damages, and Richard Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We can’t wait to see what he brings to the character of Dodgson in the Jurassic universe!

What do you think Dodgson and Biosyn have been up to all this time? Are they still after dinosaur embryos or has Biosyn already obtained them long ago, and moved on to even more nefarious plans since the fall of Ingen?

This movie continues to entertain audiences and with the sixth Jurassic Park movie now back in production, it’s safe to say this franchise isn’t going away anytime soon!

We hope you’re enjoying Jurassic June so far and if you haven’t already make sure to follow Stan Winston School on Twitter who have been dropping some incredible behind the scenes content from the original trilogy.

And along with videos and photos of the dinosaurs we already know, the team at Stan Winston School shared with us never-before-seen photos of the Mamenchisaurus from The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

Jurassic World Dominion Set to Resume Filming on July 6!

Universal Pictures have confirmed that Jurassic World Dominion is set to resume filming at Pinewood Studios on July 6, making it the first major studio movie to re-start filming after the Covid-19 pandemic shut productions down worldwide.

Deadline have reported that the studio and filmmakers have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get the production back underway, and the production team have been implementing rigorous safety protocols for when the cast and crew return to the set.

A two week pre-production period will begin next week, leading up to the cameras rolling on July 6.

A production executive detailed the situation:

“The plan is for us to be shooting early-mid July,”

“Anyone with symptoms will be isolated immediately before being sent home, we want to make sure that we are going above and beyond the national protocols to create a safe environment. Cost isn’t our main concern now: it’s safety. We will take direction from our medical team, but we’re confident that with the staggered scheduling and zones of talent and crew, along with a system of contact tracing, we can move forward with limited delay in production.”

Universal Pictures have worked with the British Film Council and U.S. unions to ensure the production of Dominion meets the required safety standards, and they are believed to be spending around $5 million to ensure thousands of tests for the remainder of filming, with all cast and crew required to be tested before returning to the set, and then multiple times during filming.

Dominion’s set will have on-site doctors and nurses with isolation booths, 150 hand sanitizer stations, anti-viral ‘fogs’ used at night, endless safety signs and all cast and crew will be trained. Masks will be mandatory to wear other than when the actor is performing.

Actors attached to the project who aren’t UK based will be travelling back to the UK soon in time for the production to restart, and director Colin Trevorrow has been ‘instrumental in planning and getting buy-in from the cast and crew’, who obviously were a little concerned about returning to a country that has been hit hard by the Covid virus, but spirits remain positive.

The main question we have is will there be a release date delay to make up for the three or so months of lost time? The Universal production executive noted that they can move forward with a “limited delay in production” but we are uncertain how that will affect the film.

Many large-scale animatronics were mid-development when the production shut down and those animatronics require crews in close proximity to operate. Will Dominion re-work scenes to be more reliant on visual effects than practical? We certainly hope this isn’t the case and would rather the studio delayed the film’s release date to provide accurate time for the production to catch up.

Further, sticking to the release date after months of delay means a tight schedule, which could lead to these animatronics never being finished and entirely replaced with a VFX option.

We’ve spoken to numerous visual effects artists who all say the same thing: meeting the demands of this film means massive compromise – sets, actors, extras, dinosaurs and more will go VFX wherever possible, even if it would have been previously unwarranted and unwanted. The looming deadline means massive crunch with long hours, and realistically cannot be achieved with the quality expected out of Jurassic without massively expanding the films budged and bringing in more effects houses to collaborate. Ultimately, this is untested territory and unfortunately will effect the films original vision in unique ways, something we will be looking to understand further in the future.

Will the production be able to use the footage shot in Vancouver, BC for the couple of weeks earlier in the year, or will they need to re-shoot those scenes?

Either way this is exciting news and hopefully we will hear more soon! Head to Deadline to read the specific details of Universal’s protocols for filming, and be sure to let us know in the comments section below what you’re most excited to see in Jurassic World Dominion.

‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Eyeing July to Resume Filming

The production for the sixth Jurassic film, Jurassic World: Dominion has been suspended since March 14th due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, but could there finally be a light at the end of the tunnel?

In an interview with Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World: Dominion actor Sam Neill, The Guardian reports that the “hope” is that filming can resume this upcoming July.

The actor and his latest team of Jurassic co-stars were due to start filming in England on Jurassic World III this month, until the pandemic struck, but he said there is still hope that some work can resume in July.

It should be noted that while they’re targeting a July start date, the entire situation remains fluid and unique – meaning further delays may occur to better protect the health and safety of cast and crew, and to fully realize the original vision of the film.

The film still holds it’s June 11, 2021 release date but it remains to be seen if that date will stick. It is likely a short pause of filming could have been handled, but a July re-start will be almost a four month delay. Though it should be noted that Universal Pictures has staked out claim for June 10, 2022 for an “Untitled Universal Event Film”, which very well may be the latest Jurassic Park films new home.

What are your thoughts on filming possibly resuming for Jurassic World: Dominion in July? Do you think that is too soon, or could it even be earlier?Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Will Not Be the End; Start of a ‘New Era’

In perhaps one of the least surprising, but still reassuring to hear confirmations yet, ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ will not mark the end of the Jurassic Park saga. While speaking to Collider, producer Frank Marshall had the following to say about Dominion’s place in the story as a whole:

“No [it’s not the conclusion of the franchise]. It’s the start of a new era. The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope.”

This isn’t all that surprising, given the end of ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ and the overall commercial success of the franchise. The dinosaurs are free within the world, and as Eli Mills said: you can’t put it back in the box. The possibilities are limitless now, and with things like a live action series in development at Amblin TV plus director Colin Trevorrow alluding to more films after JW3 in the past, the writing was on the wall.

We’re excited to see where the future of the franchise brings us, especially with possibilities of new writers and directors bringing their own unique styles and ideas to story as it further evolves. Until then, we have ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’, which is expected to resume filming in London shortly after all the proper COVID19 safety protocols are put into place, and schedules are realigned. While ‘Dominion’ may not be the end, we expect it to wrap up the stories of Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, Ian Malcolm, Claire Dearing, and Owen Grady – the final chaotic turning point of events set into motion after John Hammond brought his dream into reality with Jurassic Park. As for who will lead the future films, we fully expect entirely new faces and stories, but occasional cameos aren’t out of the question.

What do you want to see from the future of Jurassic Park, and what writers or directors would you like to see lead the story forward? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Sam Neill Suggests Moving ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ Production Down Under Amid Pandemic Delays

Legendary actor Sam Neill, who will be returning as famous paleontologist Alan Grant in Jurassic World Dominion, has floated the idea of moving production to Australia or New Zealand to get things back up and running sooner. In an interview with an Australian radio show (Fitzy and Wippa on Nova), Neill revealed Dominion had finished two weeks of shooting before the coronavirus pandemic halted filming. As he put it, the cast and crew are “in the fridge now” waiting for production to resume.

Neill said he was supposed to be filming his parts for the movie in London, firstly at Pinewood Studios, but flew home to New Zealand as soon as things started shutting down. Not wanting to stay down for long, he remarked, “I’d like to think that maybe we can start or restart in this part of the world.” With the tenuous situation in the UK at the moment, Neill “reckons New Zealand or Australia would be the place to bring it” so filming could start back up sooner.

A move down under for Jurassic World Dominion would shake up production quite a bit for the movie. I think one thing is clear, Jurassic World Dominion should not be rushed. Fans want a good movie, not one that rushes to theaters as quickly as possible. Especially in a time where movies have been delayed for months, a move like that from Universal would simply come off as a cheap cash grab ploy.

Dominion was shut-down mid production, halting the sculpting and designing of dinosaurs, creations of animatronics, and creation of complex props and sets. Dominion was shaping up to feature the most animatronic dinosaurs, both large and small, since the original Jurassic Park films, innovating much like the modern Star Wars films. However, should the production move shops, and the release date be adhered to, these will inevitably be sacrificed to save time and money. This extends to more than animatronics, but the entire artistic vision of the film, putting undue strain on Colin Trevorrow and the actors to speed through the production, and it to be more VFX dependent with far less time.

The other issue is simply one of safety. We know that when movie productions start back up, there’s going to be a lot of safety regulations put into place. We have already seen some of the restrictions the UK is planning on using, and they are STRICT. To the point of having actors six feet apart during scenes, with something as simple as a kiss requiring VFX. These restrictions expand to the crew, meaning things must move far slower, with fewer people, and costing more money. Obviously for a franchise with as much ‘chaos’ as Jurassic, requiring intense filming scenes on both sides of the camera, that probably just will not work. Of course we want this movie to be made, but not so much to the point as we are sacrificing the health and well-being of those working on it – nor the artistic vision of the movie itself. It would be much better to resume work on Dominion once we are cleared to go about business as usual, and of course, with a delayed release date.

Waiting to resume back in London has its benefits too. With all this time Colin and crew have time on their hands to think about the story they are telling and how to make it even better. Scripts constantly change in this business, and sometimes for the better – time is not going to hurt this production, but rushing will. Not to mention that if production is moved to Australia, countless employees who expected to have steady work with Dominion will be out of a job (“Don’t you mean extinct?”). It would not be fair to the people livelihood that depending on this large production, and would only disrupt or perhaps throwaway the hardwork they already put into the films development.

Of course, there may be ways to pick up some side work in Australia and New Zealand, paving the way for a full throttle return to London – but a this point it’s hard to see its longterm benefits, at least without a formal delay and proper plan.

All in all, it’s a better idea just to let things sit for the moment. Give the production some time to breathe as the pandemic subsides – it will benefit so many people in the long run. I know we are all chomping at the bit to see this star-studded Jurassic conclusion, but let’s just remember that this virus requires are absence to die out, not our presence. And if we could only step aside, and trust in nature (plus our health care professionals), Dominion will find a way.

Any thoughts on how COVID19 is affecting movie production? Do you think moving to Australia or New Zealand would actually be a good move for Dominion? Let us know in the comments below!
