‘Jurassic World: Amber Collection’ – Mattel’s 6 Inch Scale Collectors Line Revealed!

Since the release of the Mattel Jurassic World lineup in 2018, dinosaurs have truly ruled the toy shelves, calling attention from fans and collectors alike. Last year during San Diego Comic Con 2018, Mattel promised a new format for the Jurassic World line: a 6 inch collectors series. Since that reveal, which included Owen Grady, Malcolm, and Velociraptor Blue, it’s been radio silence – however, prior to SDCC 2019 we finally have new pictures and details!

Releasing under the title of the ‘Jurassic World Amber Collection’, this line is aimed at collectors and is sculpted in a 6 inch scale (the core line is a smaller 3 3/4 inch scale). The range will launch with 2 figures based upon the original Jurassic Park: Dr Ian Malcolm, and a classic female Velociraptor. Read their descriptions below for all the details!

Dr Ian Malcolm

Velociraptor (female)

The Velociraptor and Malcolm both have seen quite a few revisions and improvements since their 2018 reveals. Most obviously, the Velociraptor is no longer based upon Jurassic World’s Blue, while Malcolm himself looks more proportionate, and less ‘Jeff Swoleblum’ as some had dubbed him. At this point there is no word on availability or pricing, though the current buzz is these items will be retailer exclusive. With San Diego Comic Con 2019 opening its doors in less than 10 days, we wouldn’t be surprise to see and learn more soon – though it remains unconfirmed that the toys will be on display at the show. Further, while Owen is currently not available with the latest batch of information, we suspect he will make it to store shelves at some point (although we would welcome a Jurassic Park focus, with Grant and Sattler first).

‘Jurassic World Alive’ Expands with Exciting New Sanctuaries Update!

The ‘Jurassic World Alive’ released their 1.8 update, which now includes Sanctuaries!

In the game, the DPG uses Sanctuaries as safe places to feed and care for prehistoric creatures. You can feed, interact, and play with any of creatures that are placed in a Sanctuary. Feeding time includes goats for the carnivores, while herbivores get bunches of greens! He’s gonna eat the goat?!

While not indicative of gameplay, the live-action CG dinosaurs in the ad are quite exciting – it’s rare for Jurassic to see film quality visuals in expanded materials, and we’ll happily take more like it! Now if only they’d feature some of the more obscure dinosaurs from the films that we didn’t get to spend as much time with. For a real look at the update, check out the images below!

The DPG has built dinosaur Sanctuaries all over the world to help DPG members protect and care for their creatures. Place your creatures in these Sanctuaries to feed, play, and interact with them, then collect their DNA. Work together with other players to improve your Sanctuaries, care for each other’s creatures, and get more rewards!

Work with other DPG members to care for the creatures to receive DNA and rewards that help level up the Sanctuaries. This allows players to get up close and personal with their dinosaurs, and build a more authentic relationship with their digital prehistoric friends. Being able to play and feed the creatures makes the Sanctuaries feel a bit like a Jurassic Tamagotchi!

In other ‘Alive’ news, the ‘Battle at Big Rock’ Allosaurus and Nasutoceratops will be coming to the game in a future release! A first look was dropped on Twitter earlier this week:

While the Nasutoceratops looks to be an incredible addition to the Jurassic roster, we’re not so sure about that “Allosaurus” – in fact there has been some speculation online that it may not be an Allosaurus at all, as it doesn’t look anything like the species in question. However, the game labels it as such, and it does match the equally non-Allosaur Mattel toy. If Big Rock does feature that design, it means the Allosaurus design attempts are 0/2, but maybe third time is the charm with Jurassic World 3?

Design issues aside, we’re even more intrigued by what Battle at Big Rock may be – from toys to game tie ins, it’s being treated more and more like the films themselves, and not just a simply web feature. Even stranger is how the external media is being released, but nothing has been officially announced. We’re not sure what is going on, but we are excited!

First Look at Universal Hollywood’s New Dinosaur Animatronics from Jurassic World the Ride

Summer is here, and the ever elusive opening date for Jurassic World the Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood draws closer and closer. While the exact date has yet to be revealed, the brand new attraction opens sometime this Summer, and the marketing continues to amp up. In a new behind the scenes feature, details from the ride are teased, and we’re given our first peak at some of this river adventures tantalizing dinosaurs — check it out below!

While the video doesn’t go into much new detail if you’ve been following the updates closely, the appearance of dinosaurs – particularly the Indominus Rex – are brand new. In the video Jon Corfino – part of the Universal creative team – does reveal that Blue the Velociraptor will indeed feature within the ride, and hints at the much expected showdown between the Indominus and Tyrannosaurus Rex within the rides climax. Jon also talks about the innovative new part of the ride which will mix practical and screen based elements to bring the gigantic Mosasaurus to life.

We’re also given a peek at the returning Dilophosaurus and Parasaurolophus, both legacy dinosaurs from its original Jurassic Park ride iteration. While not featured in the video, it’s been confirmed that the mother and baby Stegosaurus will also return, though we’re unsure on how the animatronics and designs may have been updated for the Jurassic World rebrand. As previously mentioned, Blue will make her debut in the ride, but we’re also hopeful her more deadly and wild counterparts from Jurassic Park will also reappear.

While there is no date for the rides opening yet, many areas of the Jurassic section are now open, such as Jurassic Outfitters, Jurassic Cafe, and the brand-new Isla-Nu-Bar. While the new Raptor Encounter has yet to open its paddock gates, that experience is expected to roar to life soon – so stay tuned for more updates!

Mattel Reveals Jurassic Park John Hammond Toy Exclusive to San Diego Comic Con 2019!

At long last, John Hammond can welcome you to Jurassic Park in toy form. Just announced, Mattel has revealed their Jurassic World Legacy Collection John Hammond pack. Sporting incredible Jurassic Park art in the form of the iconic gates as a sleeve, the packaging then opens up to reveal Hammond sealed inside a Legacy Collection box, packed alongside an egg incubator with the hatching baby Velociraptor.

This is the first time ever John Hammond has been given a toy, as not even the classic Jurassic Park Kenner line released the iconic founder of the park which started it all. Now, 26 years later, life has found a way! However, this toy will not be easy to come by – while you can pre-order it now, you must attend San Diego Comic Con 2019 to verify your purchase. There is a limit of 5 per attendee, and the attendee must show their 2019 San Diego Comic-Con badge, their ID, and order confirmation at Mattel booth #2945 on July 17th-21st. The name on the SDCC attendee badge and ID must match the name on the order. Order will be shipped after the event ends.

I know the limited availability is a bittersweet happenstance, as this toy has been long anticipated and requested, and will surely be incredibly difficult to track-down at affordable prices for non-attendees. However, I’m absolutely thrilled that this item exists – the classic Jurassic Park packaging is gorgeous, and the best I’ve ever seen for Jurassic, and the John Hammond figures likeness to the late Richard Attenborough is incredible. It’s worth noting that what stops this set from being perfect is the baby Velociraptor – for some reason Mattel thinks the classic Jurassic Park raptors were green — they were not. But even with that coloring snafu, this set is incredibly exciting, and sure to be an iconic centerpiece to many collections.

John Hammond Was Killed by Velociraptors in These Newly Unearthed Jurassic Park Storyboards

Although Jurassic Park is now over 26 years old, new stories, art, and secrets continue to be unearthed by its incredibly dedicated and passionate fanbase. This Jurassic June, Jurassic Time has uncovered yet another long-forgotten storyboard from the original Jurassic Park film. It is part of what Jurassic Time dubs as “The Many Deaths Of John Hammond”.

In this newly revealed storyboard page, John Hammond is in Jurassic Park’s control room during the climax when the Raptors have broken out of their pen and have entered the Visitor Center. John Hammond, with an incubator of eggs he plans to take with him upon leaving the park to “save it”, hears Lex screaming downstairs. He opens the door to the control room to help, but is greeted by a Raptor. Hammond falls backward, crashing on a tabletop model of Jurassic Park that is on display in the control room (which was to be very similar to the one we see in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), as the Raptor digs its claws deep into his chest. The incubator shatters to the floor, breaking one of the eggs while another remains unharmed.

Later on, Grant finds Hammond in the control room, barely alive, as he tells Grant that he always knew the “first batch of DNA was too unstable” and that he was looking forward to working with him at the park. He then dies as the two men are framed by the destroyed model of Jurassic Park. Then, the one unharmed egg from before cracks open, revealing an infant Triceratops.

This was one of the many deaths originally planned for John Hammond. In the novel, John Hammond dies while falling down a hill then killed by Compies. In Michael Crichton’s first draft of the screenplay, Hammond is in the Visitor Center when he falls into the destroyed scaffolding after being startled by the twitching corpse of a Raptor. Then, he is finished off by Compies like in the novel. Jurassic Time showed an illustration from this depiction some time ago.

This was then followed by Crichton’s final draft, which featured Hammond being killed by a Raptor while the “Welcome Video” of him is being played behind him, stuttering in an eerie effect as he is being attacked. The next version of his death is the one just described with the tabletop model; originating from a script revision actually tackled by someone else no one has ever known to have penned. But that is another story that will be told another time.

The other versions of his death are of Hammond simply being left behind on the island, either by his choice or by accident. Some art and storyboards of this idea were done by Art Director John Bell, with a version of this scripted in Malia Scotch Marmo’s screenplay that followed both Crichton’s and the one the tabletop Raptor death was from.

However, once David Koepp entered into the picture, it was decided Hammond no longer needed to die. Whether it was because Richard Attenborough was cast or the filmmakers decided it didn’t fit their ever-evolving take on the character remains to be seen. It seems to be a good choice for the version of the character they ended up crafting, but it will always be interesting to see just how his many deaths were once going to be played out.

You can find more rare art and storyboards from Jurassic Park at Jurassic Time, along with an audio memoir of John Hammond read by Richard Attenborough that was adapted from the Lost World game Trespasser. It includes a video version with art by Felipe Humboldt, as pictured above, who also has been uncovering many lost relics of the Jurassic Park films via Behind The Gates.

DreamWorks Debuts Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous Trailer – an All New Animated Series Roaring onto Netflix!

Welcome to Camp Cretaceous. At long last, the Jurassic Park series enters the animated foray with an all new series coming from DreamWorks Animation! Debuting exclusively on Netflix in 2020, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous promises all the the thrills, wonder, and adventure synonymous with the Jurassic films.

DreamWorks Animation today announced Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, an animated action-adventure series, is set to debut globally on Netflix in 2020 as part of an ongoing multi-year agreement with Netflix to produce original animated kids and family programming. Set within the same timeline as the 2015 blockbuster film, Jurassic World, the Netflix original series is inspired by the multi-billion-dollar franchise from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive.

Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Lane Lueras (Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny) serve as showrunners and executive producers. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Colin Trevorrow. Zack Stentz serves as consulting producer.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous builds on a successful five-year relationship between DreamWorks Animation and Netflix that has seen 18 original series debut on the service, including the Tales of Arcadia trilogy from Guillermo del Toro, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Spirit Riding Free, and The Boss Baby: Back in Business. Following NBCUniversal’s acquisition of the studio, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix expanded their relationship to include first looks at animated series based on Universal Pictures properties as well as original and acquired IP. DreamWorks Animation has a number of additional series slated to debut on Netflix in 2019, including Archibald’s Next Big Thing from executive producer Tony Hale and the highly anticipated Fast & Furious animated series.

From the synopsis, it sounds like Camp Cretaceous follows an elite-summer-camp-intern-program, where select students are given a once in a lifetime opportunity – but little do they know, it’s more than they bargained for. The series is believed to begin in parallel to the events of Jurassic World (much like Jurassic World Live), with all-hell letting loose after the Indominus Rex breaks free from her paddock. The six Camp Cretaceous stragglers are forced to come to terms with missing the evacuation of Isla Nublar, and band together to survive the chaos to follow (one might expect some ‘Swiss Family Robinson’ style antics to follow).

The trailer itself features stunning animation, featuring a Velociraptor in the jungle, investigating its surroundings and embodying the adventure to come. While the key art of the human characters is stylized, it seems the dinosaurs themselves with be realistically realized in beautiful 3D, accurately reflecting their live-action counterparts. While we haven’t seen much, it seems DreamWorks has knocked this one out of the park (no pun intended).

We couldn’t be more excited about the potential of this series! Will it show the park before its downfall – and if so, explore new areas of it? Further, will the series explore important other canonical stories playing out in other mediums, such as the Troodon and dino-decoder of Jurassic World Live, or the retrieval of the remains of the Indominus Rex, as seen in Fallen Kingdom? Or finally, will it explore entirely unknown events, perhaps expanding upon elements that will have a greater meaning in Jurassic World 3?

With so little known about the series, and so many opportunities to evolve the story into bold new territory, we’re confident this will be an exciting new Jurassic adventure for fans of all ages and interests. Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous will be a multi-season series, and debut on Netflix in 2020 (marking the first true Jurassic Park spin-off).

Jurassic World Evolution Announces All-New ‘Fallen Kingdom’ Inspired Story Expansion | Claire’s Sanctuary

Prepare to return to Isla Nublar this June, and save the dinosaurs from extinction. Frontier Developments have announced an all new DLC expansion for Jurassic World Evolution titled Claire’s Sanctuary. The ‘Sanctuary’ story expansion is inspired by the events of Fallen Kingdom, and focuses on saving the dinosaurs from the imminent Mount Sibo induced extinction, relocating them to Sanctuary Island.

The Jurassic World Evolution experience just got bigger and the stakes are higher than ever.

With Jurassic World Evolution: Claire’s Sanctuary, you’ll embark on an exciting campaign with a thrilling storyline never before explored! This expansion pack features a whole host of new missions, dinosaurs, locations and loads more waiting to be unlocked by you on the islands.

Time is running out as the once dormant Mt. Sibo is expected to erupt at any minute and is threatening to send the dinosaurs of Isla Nublar back to extinction. Leap into action with Claire Dearing, voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard, as you work together on this rescue mission to save these magnificent creatures.

In addition to the exciting new narrative in Jurassic World Evolution, you’ll also gain access to three incredible new dinosaurs:

  • Albertosaurus – a large tyrannosaur with distinctive short, bony crests above the eyes and two extremely powerful legs
  • Euplocephalus – meaning “well-armoured head”, referring to its wide skull and toothless beak
  • Ouranosaurus – a powerfully built herbivore with a flat, duck-billed snout. This dinosaur had a thick muscular sail on its back going from the base of its neck to the very tip of its tail.

Dinosaurs aren’t the only addition though. Now, there are brand new Paleobotany mechanics that allow you to research and grow new plants using the new Greenhouse building. You’ll be able to serve your dinosaurs their favourite meals to increase their lifespan and prestige while making them feel more at home in the environment.

With an all new Isla Nublar play space, the addition of Sanctuary Island, Paleobotany, new dinosaurs, and more, this expansion promises to add fun for players of all interests! You may recognize the new off-road vehicle ride as the Gallimimus Valley tour vehicle, as seen in Jurassic World, which is quite a fun new addition. I’m particularly excited to visit Sanctuary Island, and learn more about this elusive island, as the film never explored it due to Mill’s dino-auction betrayal.

Alongside ‘Claire’s Sanctuary’, Jurassic World Evolution will be releasing a free update with many exciting, fan requested features as well.

  • Terrain and Scenery Items – Place new rocks, trees and shrubs in your dinosaur habitats or change the terrain from grass to dirt on some islands!
  • Spinosaurid Care – Spinosaurids are receiving some care refinement with the addition of wetlands to represent their swamp and coastal environments, plus new fish feeders!
  • Gyrosphere Improvements – We’ve made some changes to allow gyrospheres to pass through enclosure fences by adding automatic gates, so now you can wow your guests with a park-wide tour of all of your exhibits!
  • And more!

Jurassic World Evolution: Claire’s Sanctuary will launch alongside our free update 1.8 on 18 June 2019 and will be available to download from Steam, PlayStation or the Xbox Store for £12.99/$14.99 (price may vary per platform and region). Bryce Dallas Howard More or Less Confirms Return of Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World 3!

Hold on to your butts – it seems the original Jurassic Park trio are returning in Jurassic World 3!

Either this is the worst kept secret ever, or they knew they couldn’t keep this contained, and decided to have fun with it up until the official announcement. Either way, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard talk of Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum returning, but now Sam Neill has joined the party. Speaking to MTV while promoting Rocketman, Bryce Dallas Howard couldn’t contain her excitement when asked if she would be acting alongside those iconic Jurassic Park characters.

We understand Bryce, we wouldn’t be able to keep up a poker face if we had to keep that secret either! Now that the cat has been let out of the bag many, many times, we think it’s time Universal just makes it official – it would be a great Jurassic June gift to the community, even if it is early in the news cycle.

Bryce Dallas Howard plays the character of Claire Dearing, Jurassic World’s ex-operations manager, who was last seen on the Californian coastline with Owen Grady, Maisie Lockwood, and some pesky Pteranodons. How Dr.’s Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm may cross Claire’s path is an exciting prospect overflowing with unknown opportunity. With the dinosaurs on the loose in California, as well as the species sold and transported to shady underworld locations worldwide, we’re sure each of these characters could have their hands full in various different ways.

Never Before Seen Art Surfaces from Cancelled ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’ Animated Series!

We were planning on holding this one off until Jurassic June, but much like the dinosaurs of Isla Nublar, we simply couldn’t contain it. While you no doubt know there was an unreleased Jurassic Park animated series in the early 90’s, you probably did not know there was another in development alongside The Lost World. This attempt at bringing Jurassic Park into the animated front was kept under lock and key, without any substantial evidence of existence… until now.

The Lost World’s animated series was commissioned by Steven Spielberg himself, and developed by DreamWorks Animation under the supervision of Steve Lyons. The artwork on display comes from Phillip J. Felix, who also contributed to the story of this ill-fated cartoon venture. Not much is known about the plot, outside of the fact that it would have introduced hybrid dinosaurs to the Jurassic Park franchise for the first time. While the cartoon was eventually shelved due to a variety of internal conflicts, many ideas were adopted by Kenner with the Jurassic Park Chaos Effect toy line (which was also to have a animated series that fell through).

While the art from Phillip may be our only real look at the series, it’s believed these Kenner Jurassic Park Chaos Effect precursor concepts were tied directly to it. Most noticeably, the mech suit is very similar to that of Phillips artwork:

The idea of a Jurassic Park primetime animated series was attempted many times over the years, but all became extinct before they were ever even truly alive. While some of the art for the hybrids in this series was a bridge too far for canon, in that era, transmedia story expansions were hardly ever held to continuity, and I would have enjoyed it as its own thing. That said, in today’s world of mega-franchises with expansive expanded universes and spin-offs, I think an animated series would need to stick closer to the source materials content.
