Focusing on one of ILM’s computer animation pioneers, a new documentary titled Jurassic Punk releases today! The doc tells the story of Steve “Spaz” Williams and his time at Industrial Light & Magic.
Fans of Jurassic Park will no doubt be very familiar with Steve’s work, and this new documentary directed by Scott Leberecht dives into the untold story of cinematic revolution.
During his time at ILM, Steve worked on a number of movies and created groundbreaking computer animated effects that completely changed the industry, and that still hold up today. His digital dinosaurs, the story surrounding them, and the inevitable aftermath, is explored in the doc.
If it wasn’t for Steve, Jurassic Park wouldn’t be the same.
“Directed by Scott Leberecht, “Jurassic Punk” tells the very juicy story of pioneers, naysayers and professional hierarchies that made Williams both the Necessary Man and an eventual outcast.”
-Glenn Kenny, New York Times
Jurassic Punk will be holding a screening today at the Gateway Film Center in Columbus, Ohio, with more opportunities for screenings in the near future.
When is the last time there was a dinosaur movie in theaters that took itself seriously? Check out the trailer for Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ ’65’ below:

Now, with only one chance at rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa, must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures (including dinosaurs) in an epic fight to survive.”
65 is set for release on March 10, 2023 – will you be there?
Universal Studios Orlando Resort has officially announced the opening day of their newest attraction, The Great Movie Escape! Opening December 9th, 2022, and located in the City Walk portion of the resort, The Great Movie Escape offers Universal guests a chance to become a part of their favorite films like never before! One of the two escape rooms offered is centered around Universal’s biggest franchise- Jurassic World.
In Jurassic World: Escape, you find yourself with a team of new geneticists on Isla Nublar on training day. While it may all begin with some “ooo’s” and “ahh’s” as you learn to work with the park’s star attractions and learning what it takes to make dinosaurs, it quickly devolves into “running and screaming” as one of the park’s apex predators escapes and starts heading your way. You must work together as a team to figure out how to survive. The new experience mixes an engaging story with state of the art effects, highly detailed and immersive sets, and ‘more teeth (and claws) than anything you’ve experienced before.’
This new Jurassic adventure is sure to please casual and die-hard fans of the franchise alike. The escape room experience is randomized, so the solution can vary with each visit and offers rare replay-ability that many normal escape rooms do not. The experience is also customizable depending on party size to ensuring everyone in the group gets to participate, and is also designed to adjust based on skill level (so Jurassic fans thinking this will be a piece of cake are in for a surprise- Chaos Theory in action!)
This latest foray into the Jurassic franchise by the creative teams at Universal Orlando is sure to be another hit for the resort. It follows several dino-sized wins for Universal parks and the Jurassic franchise across the world, on the tails of VelociCoaster at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure being awarded Best Roller Coaster and Best New Attraction of 2021, Jurassic World: Dominion grossing over $1 billion at the box office, and Jurassic World Adventure at Universal Studios Beijing being awarded the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement for an Attraction just last month. We can only hope to see this trend for Jurassic continuing to grow and expand at the parks!
Tickets for Universal’s Great Movie Escape start at $49.99 (plus tax) for individuals, or guests can reserve a private escape room experience for $300 (plus tax) for groups of up to 8 people. You can order your tickets by visiting the Universal Orlando website , or by calling (407)224-8463. Besides Jurassic World: Escape there will also be Back to the Future: OUTTATIME, a Back to the Future themed escape room experience where guests have to stop Biff from stealing Doc Brown’s latest invention (featuring the return of Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown!)

After a big storm, food is scarce — and hungry dinos are everywhere. It’s up to you to help the Camp Fam survive in this thrilling interactive special. You drive the action in this crowd-pleasing adventure featuring characters from the world of “Jurassic Park.”
We have a new interview with showrunner and executive producer Scott Kreamer coming soon. We spoke with him about writing and producing the Hidden Adventure, the inspiration for the new character, Owen and the Tarbo, and we ask about the future of the campers…
Join the discussion on our social channels – links at the top of the page!
While the story of the stranded Nublar Six came to a conclusion during the 5th season of Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous in July, their stories aren’t quite done yet. Debuting this month on the 15th of November is the ‘Hidden Adventure’, a standalone interactive episode of Camp Cretaceous sandwiched between seasons 2 and 3.
For those unfamiliar, the interactive episode format was popularized with ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” and act much like a ‘choose your own adventure’ book which you may remember from your childhood bookshelves or school book fairs. As a viewer you are met with key choices for the characters during pivotal moments, and those choices determine how (or if) the story continues to play out.
We’re excited to have the chance to debut an exclusive clip ahead of the Hidden Adventure’s debut where Darius, Brooklyn, and the other campers come between two giant dinosaurs in the tunnels of Jurassic World and are faced with one of the aforementioned choices.
Check it out below!
INTERACTIVE SPECIAL SYNOPSIS In a standalone interactive adventure, the campers, desperate for food, work together to find a hidden stockpile. They must risk everything to uncover clues in search of its location, ultimately exposing previously unknown secrets of Isla Nublar.

While this doesn’t tell us much about the story of what exactly this ‘Hidden Adventure’ is, it does give us an idea of the thrilling sequences and difficult choices you’ll have the chance to play out and watch. If you want to dig a little deeper into the clip, and what it all may mean, check out our breakdown analysis below:
As a fan of the choose your own adventure books (and also of the flawed yet fun ‘Jurassic Park the Game’) this is hitting all the right notes for me, and I can’t wait to explore Isla Nublar in an all-new way.
Hidden Adventure debuts on Netflix November 15th, 2022 – and remember to choose wisely, lest you potentially become a Carnotaurus chew toy.
Life found a way! The sixth installment of the Jurassic franchise, Jurassic World: Dominion, crossed the $1 billion mark globally today! It becomes the 51st film in cinematic history and the fourth film in the franchise to reach this coveted milestone. Dominion also becomes only the second film of 2022 so far to make $1 billion+ joining Top Gun: Maverick, which did so back in June. This is major accomplishment for any film to achieve.
Universal has confirmed that Amblin’s Jurassic World Dominion has passed $1 billion in global theatrical grosses.
Four of the six Jurassic films have now joined the exclusive billion dollar club with 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park ($618,638,999) and 2001’s Jurassic Park III ($368,780,809) as the only two that did not cross. Also, with the success of Dominion, the franchise retains its current title of the only live-action movie franchise that averages $1 billion per film as the entire series is now north of $6 billion total. Though later this year Jurassic will be sharing that title with the Avatar franchise once 20th Century Studios/Disney’s Avatar: The Way of Water is released.
The success of this franchise is quite staggering once you realize that franchises like the MCU, Star Wars, Harry Potter and Fast and Furious average below $1 billion per film. Tyrannosaurus Rex translates to Tyrant Lizard King, but I am pretty sure in the land of Hollywood that Jurassic Park translates as Franchise King.
Jurassic World Dominion will finish it’s domestic run as the 5th highest grossing film in Universal Pictures history only behind Jurassic World, E.T. the Extra-Terrestial, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic Park. Sense a theme? Worldwide, Dominion will finish as Universal Pictures 8th highest grossing film.
So what do you think of Jurassic World Dominion crossing the $1 billion mark? Also, what are your thoughts on the Jurassic franchise being the only live-action film franchise to average $1 billion per film globally? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
